With regard to tutoring, Jamie advises Landon: "Maybe you should back into it from somewhere else." Meaning?

Around the 16-minute mark, Jamie and Landon are on the school bus. They had just finished tutoring. Jamie says to Landon: "So I saw you in there with Luis. And I know it can be difficult. But maybe you should back into it from somewhere else."
What does "back into it from somewhere else" mean? What is it?
