I noticed that as long as the grandmother was alive, Kane is no where to be seen, but after the night she died, Kane appeared at the mall and at the family's house, really creepy or is it a coincidence?

In the P2 novelization, this is explained more thoroughly. It's been a couple of years since I read it but the book does state that the Grandmother's aura or something was a protection for the Freelings .
