Yes, its not a movie that could be made today, although the animal chase scenes were not to distressing (other than the monkey one). If it shed light on how unpleasant stealing animals for zoo collections were then it migh have done some good in the long run; like showing a kid footage from a slaughter house or a battery farm to hell inform their decisions about what food they want to eat.
