I was wondering because on the page for Doctor Dolittle , one of the recommendations which I am provided with was Hôtel Terminus: The Life and Times of Klaus Barbie. This would appear to be pretty much the exact polar opposite of Doctor Dolittle, so does anybody know how recs are determined, or if random unrelated films are simply pulled out of a hat?

Wow: That's certainly perplexing. I just now compared the TMDb currently indicated genres and keywords for each and there are literally no similarities between the two films' genre classifications or keyword descriptions (nor otherwise). In this situation, perhaps there's a bug, as normally recommended films that appear at the bottom of a particular film's or show's TMDb Overview page are in the right general ballpark, for example just family comedies, etc.
In the case of TMDb's recommendations that are at the bottom of the Dolittle Overview, really none of the listed films (sole exception of the Mister Magoo one) are in the right ballpark.
PS: I've just now asked about this https://www.themoviedb.org/talk/589da5f5c3a3685f870069e7 on an existing (from 2017) Support forum thread that's about recommendations.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, usually one can see some similarity - vague or tenuous though it may be - between a given title and the recommendations attached to it. I have always found it odd that certain titles - including some pretty obscure ones - seem to show up frequently associated to multiple films, but this one was downright bizarre.
I have just checked the recommendations attached to Doctor Dolittle again and I found Camelot - perfectly logical in that it's likewise a mega-budget 1967 musical turkey - and two 1930s thrillers which seem to have little obvious connection to Dolittle.
Thanks also for pointing me to the support forum thread - interesting reading. Hopefully the recommendations function can be successfully overhauled soon - they suggest that this will be happening.

I was away for five days, or would have responded sooner (have been playing gradual catch-up during the last few days).
It'll be very welcome when the new TMDb recommendations system goes in to effect. For the most part I've found recommendations that appear at the bottom of movie/t.v. overview pages to be at least generally in the right sort of ballpark, so don't understand why, where Doctor Doolittle is concerned, the majority of recommendations aren't even in the right universe.

Something tells me this is still an issue... yesterday I opened the page for a documentary about a gay porn star and one of the recommendations was a Peppa Pig title!
