This film defies placing it in a genre. A bit sci -fi, a bit psychological drama, a strange mixture of many genres. But a lovely, heartwarming story of the relationship between a psychologist and his gentle patient, who may, or may not, have come from a galaxy far away called Lyra . And from a planet called K-Pax; Travelling to Earth on a beam of light. Plus the film has an amazing soundtrack.!!

I haven't read the book, but based on the film, there's not much room for that argument is there? The guy's traumatic backstory is identified, his 'departure' doesn't happen, and beyond his freakish knowledge of astronomy and his resilience to drugs, he doesn't demonstrate any actual powers. I was kind of disappointed by that, if not surprised.
