The Thing about Wonder Woman is she was created by the William Moulton Marston. Who invented a Lie Detector and Lived with his wife and mistress. He was big into kinky S&M/Bondage and believed in Female domination over men. Frankly Wonder Woman was created to be Feminist in tights.
I'm not sure its a feminist film...I haven't seen it yet. But like it or not...it is getting great reviews.
I don't think it's a feminist movie. Ok they show where she comes from, a warrior tribe of women. It reminds me of Supergirl , neither are a feminist movie or tv series.
If anyone watched the original Wonder Women with Linda Carter. same background, that didn't make it a feminist tv show.
Just saw it...and loved it. It didn't strike me a feminist movie either. It wasn't really about "the power of woman", honestly the TV show came off more as doing that than this movie did...at least in it's first season it did.
This is just a damned good super hero movie whose lead happens to be a woman.
I put "feminist" in quotes for a reason. The fact that it is directed by a woman and stars a female hero means that it is perceived by critics to be a feminist film. Which means they will refuse to review it like responsible adults...or even professionals.
For example, this headline
"‘Wonder Woman’ Breaks Glass Ceiling For Female Directors"
Frankly i think the fact that Hollywood think its so important that a movie about female character must be directed by a women. Seems extremely PC to me. I mean really one of the biggest guy movies of the 90's was directed by a woman (aka Point Break by Kathryn Bigelow). And one of the recent romance movie that people refuse to shut up about, was directed by a man. (aka The Notebook by Nick Cassavetes).

Precisely. Don't get me wrong, I want Jenkins and WW to succeed, but it was kinda strange having her in the main interviews with GG +Pine, and making it all about a female led film because of it.
They also fail to point out that the 6 (I think?) writers are all male and that's THE most decisive part of filmmaking. A great director cannot save a terrible script. They should give interviews to all the crew (regardless of sex) and not cherry pick the director and put her in the spotlight 24/7.
Hitchcock: "To make a great film you need three things - the script, the script and the script."
Just because the director and star are women does not mean its a feminist movie. It's just a movie that feminists would likely be happy to see...in addition to everyone else.
