I've never heard of this one but it looks fun. I had forgotten about Rufus Sewell. I haven't seen him in anything for a long time.

Unfortunately no. You would think by the name of it they planed on making three of them. And the way it ended I thought for sure there would be a sequel.

I liked everything about it. The atmosphere, creaky boat, story, acting. Now I think I will watch it this weekend! LOL

I watched it last night and I agree, it seems like the intention was to have a sequel or maybe more, but they never did. Since it was made in 2001, it seems unlikely that they ever will now.

I liked the movie. It wasn't perfect, but it was most certainly original, I mean how often do we see a mermaid-themed horror movie anyway?

I could have done without the sex scene, though I get that it was important to the plot (I think), it was the single thing that took the movie out of the realm of "classy." Other than that and maybe a bit of the gore (though that wasn't too bad), the word "classy" is what keeps coming to mind to describe it. It was almost gothic in a seafarin' kind of way.

The mermaid herself was a great monster character. The way she looked when she transformed was a bit over the top, but in normal human/fish form she was great because you - much like Lily I think - are torn between feeling that just a girl and some kind of dangerous wild animal.

I give this movie 4 stars.

I was sure they were going to make a sequel the way it ended. With Carla in the boat with her little girl. I thought in the sequel they would turn the girl into a mermaid and Carla would have to fight her own daughter (or in this case the mermaids daughter) to survive.
