Saddest ending in film noir

I was challenged to name the saddest ending in noir, and this one takes the case.
Coming in a close second is the heartbreaking ending of In A Lonely Place.

What a great film and gotta agree, the ending was one of the grimmest I've seen in noirs!

I literally have a hard time considering watching it again because it's so bleak. John Garfield was so good in it.
