Discuss Shoot 'Em Up

I understand that the movie is supposed to be a caricature of action films. This movie is neither funny, nor does it hold its own as an action movie to be taken seriously. In the end it's just a really really bad action movie that gained some manner of public acceptance under the pretext of being a caricature.

Don't get me wrong, I like caricatures. I've enjoyed caricature SNL skits, the movie Kung Pow, and the T.V. series Darth Marenghi's Darkplace is imo one of the best caricature based comedies ever created. This movie is NOT a caricature! This movie is just a terrible, terrible action movie.

SPOILER

When Clive Owen's character looked down and realized that the baby he was trying to protect had a bullet wound in its dead, little head, I thought that this must be the most nihilistic film ever created in the US. I never finished it, however.

Yes, this is one of niche z-movies. Best when it is worst. I find this movie some kind of thrash action (Hobo with a Shotgun + Hard Boiled). You need to be a "target viewer" to really like it.

It's a wry sort of film. I got a kick out of the deliberately-awful dialogue (Clive Owen's, "Fuck you, you fucking fuckers!" was solid gold in my book). It's definitely bad, but that's what makes it entertaining. If you're the right public for that sort of thing, anyway.

I liked it. Loved the rant about poor drivers and the whole OTT live action Looney Tunes vibe. Can't remember the death described above, though. Must watch it again.

It does have an amazing soundtrack though! Great for setting the mood in DnD or having something playing in the background that'll get you a bit pumped.
