Thanks for your report! slight_smile

I'm not sure what you want to report -> the duplicate "posters" ONE and TWO? I deleted both because they're not posters we want according to our Contribution Bible.

Or do you want to report a duplicate entry for this movie? If that's the case, can you point me to the second, duplicate entry? I can't find one, that's why I'm confused ... confused

Hi, yes I was reporting the duplicate posters. Sorry, I assumed that if I clicked on the "report" button on the image screen it would be reporting the images rather than a global report for the whole movie.

Can you explain what aspect of the posters was not desired? I didn't find any particular problems with the image in question apart from the letterboxing added to achieve the required 1:1.5 aspect ratio. It seems to be official, not a DVD cover, etc. It wouldn’t be suitable for a primary poster as it is not textless (but it's not clear to me what that means)

I appreciate the help.

No, that's not how it works, unfortunately. worried

Instead, when you click on the report button, you can select 6 different types of problems! The second point on the left is called "Bad Image" (when you browse TMDb in English, that is). You should choose that one when you report a bad image, and when you do, the line on your report says:

Type of Problem: Bad Image (instead of the one that you selected, "Duplicate", as seen above in your report).

This helps us moderators a lot to find the issue, actually! smiley_cat

And that's the problem -> we don't like added bars of any kind to achieve the aspect ratio for images. I'm sorry, but I think I gave you the wrong link to the Contribution Bible in my first reply - here's the correct link about the image quality in general:

https://www.themoviedb.org/bible/image/59f7583e9251416e7100006e

"Images should not be stretched nor squished (i.e. distorted) or have bars be inserted on the sides to get to the needed aspect ratio."

That's it - don't upload such posters and/or backdrops with bars. chocolate_bar

Yeah, I picked duplicate because I uploaded a second copy of the (letterboxed) poster and needed that removed. Didn’t realize that letterboxing was an issue or that the 1:1.5 aspect ratio limitation was a policy limitation rather than a technical one.

It’s a little odd to me that removing information (i.e. cropping) is an acceptable method of getting to the desired aspect ratio – but hey, if that’s the policy I certainly won’t second-guess it.

Thanks again for the help.

Yes, I understand. For the future, every time it's an issue about images, please choose the image option. It really makes it easier for us mods. wink

Hm, no, not quite. Cropping images has to be done very carefully, without removing important information from the specific poster/background. Sometimes it's even impossible to manipulate a poster to get to the desired aspect ratio (another moderator wrote to me that French original posters are often very tricky). I'm not an expert when it comes to images in general, but in such cases it is possible to upload images that are slightly off. In the Contribution Bible it says:

"An aspect ratio of 1:1.5 (2:3) is usually preferred. However, posters with an aspect ratio between 1:1.33 and 1:1.67 are allowed, especially if the poster can't be cropped without destroying the image and/or cutting text or logos in half."

So, there is a little margin to experiment with the aspect ratio, but always without compromising the quality via adding bars, are stretching or whatever.

Okay, so, enough about images -> back to the movies. movie_camera
