Discuss Madame Web

I can't really see this happening. Cassandra Webb was nothing but a secondary character in the comics, and her backstory was uninteresting. She was pretty much just a wheelchair bound blind psychic who worked as a spiritual medium (and in the ultimates universe worked for S.H.I.E.L.D.), and that's pretty much it. I'd believe more that she's playing the Julia Carpenter version of Madame Webb. Julia Carpenter was the superhero known as Arachne/Spider-Woman before becoming the second Madame Web. Carpenter has had a more eventful backstory as she was an Avenger and fought along them in Secret Wars, plus Dakota Johnson looks a lot like her (while Cassandra Webb is..um...elderly).

Dakota said in an interview shortly before Sony announced her casting as the lead in the film, that she already knew what kind of superhero she’d wanna play if she joined a franchise. Her reply was that “Oh, I already know!” and that she wants “to play the villain. I wanna play the bad guy.” This always made me think she was gonna be Cassandra Webb in some capacity. An anti-hero who could end up becoming a Spider-Woman. I think Sydney Sweeney, who is the second lead in the film has the Julia Carpenter role, and I wonder if they’re friends who jointly get various Spider powers at the beginning of the film etc. but anyway, she was recently interviewed alongside Luca for a screening of his directors cut for A Bigger Splash, and Luca had gotten to see footage from the film and was raving that “Dakota IS Madame Webb! She’s incredible!” Dakota’s response was very humble and grateful and yet sheepish cause it seemed like she didn’t want him to accidentally spoil anything. We shall see!!

Hasn’t anyone paid attention to the fact that she is playing Cassandra and they’re obviously changing the character. Sydney Sweeney is playing Julia Carpenter. Y’all know these Sony Marvel movies completely ignore the comic.
