So, after watching Lazenby and Dalton's entrants, and then revisiting Moore, I've finally sat through Brosnan's debut in Goldeneye. Loved it.
First quick note - I think I like all the Bond interpretations except Lazenby and Craig. Of course, by the time I work through all the Moore and all the Brosnan, my appreciation for all the facets of Bond may help me see what seemingly so many others see in Craig...at any rate, Brosnan was refreshing to me. As already mentioned, I was surprised how much I liked Dalton, but Brosnan looks more like what I imagine "Bond" to be. (subjecttive, I know).
Goldeneye starts with a wild stunt - free-diving into the cockpit of a free-falling plane. I mean, talk about wild, right? It also includes a chase scene that was so over the top one can only laugh out loud as Bond commandeers a tank - yeah, you read that right, a tank - and rumbles through the city.
The nerdy, geeky, creepy computer dude was annoying as hell, with his pubescent, repressed, workplace harassment crap...but it was the 90s.
Xenia Onatopp? Imagine Fatima Blush...on crack.
It was touching when Natalya asked him how he could be so cold, and I replied "It keeps me alive." In that moment, I remembered Tracy di Vicenzo.
One thing that has lit up discussion boards since 1995 is, why TF didn't Bond get to shoot the Stingers from his BMW? C'mon.
One last thing from me - Goldeneye mentions Toronto. Tee-hee!
Bottom line - splendid debut for Brosnan. I can tell I'm going to enjoy his Bond era.

I went back & read your past comments about TPATP & Rona De Ricci. I see that you were able to acquire a copy of her memoir.

Yes, in paperback. Apparently it was only run in one printing, and I'm guessing her warnings just before her death about her family possibly pulling it proved correct. I purchased it on Amazon from a third-party seller, at a very high price. The Post Office would not leave it at my home without my signing for it, so I had to go down to the Post Office and pick it up. It was in shrink-wrap with not a single crinkled page, so I'm pretty sure it was an unread copy purchased by a reseller. Some would probably say I paid too much, but if it is a book, and I really want it, I'll pay, up to a point. Everyone has their weaknesses and that's one of mine.

Does anybody on this thread remember which thread it is where there is a discussion about the different scores written for the Bond films?

Oh! I saw it last week but (of course!) I can't remember in which thread I saw it.
That's one thing this site could have benefitted from - search functionality for discussion boards. But it is no secret that the discussion boards are...shall we say, not a priority for the ownership/management group. Too bad (not that I don't appreciate what this board does provide since the demise of IMDb's boards. I'm just sayin'...)
I make my fair share of notes in Evernote to keep track of discussions of interest to me, especially those in which I've yet to make a comment, since those won't even show up in the Discussions link under our user profiles.

Thanks, DRD. I didn't leave a comment on it so I couldn't look through my past discussions to find it. Swing back around if you remember it. 😉

A little TMDb tip that a lot of site users aren't aware of:
If ever you're trying to locate a thread you recall something specific being mentioned/discussed on, but don't have a clue which thread or on which board, type some precise words you're pretty sure you recall are on that thread into the Support forum's page-top search bar. I've a number of times located things that way.
For example...

What do you mean, brat? (You earlier mentioned not knowing which thread includes a Bond scores discussion you recently were looking at.)

No worries...from the top TMDb menu, click on More, and then Support, then enter your search terms in the top search bar.
@genplant29 provided an example, if you click on his link "for example" it'll take you to that support page with the results of the term that's showing in the top search bar. You can go ahead and change the terms to iterate your search effort towards finding the message for which you're looking.

I thought so too. Unfortunately each successive film is worse than the one before.
It's not Brosnan's fault. He was really let down by the writing. By the time he ended his stint with Tomorrow Never Dies, his movies were approaching Roger Moore levels of camp.
Anyone who doesn't think Brosnan could portray the role of a cynical cold-blooded licensed-to-kill spy a la Craig should seek out an older movie called The Fourth Protocol. He plays a Russian agent trying to smuggle a nuclear weapon into England while Michael Caine's MI5 agent is on his tail.
At the time he was pretty much known only for his breezy Remington Steele series. There's a scene in Protocol -- no spoilers -- where he casually kills someone in circumstances that make me sit up and go "Whoa! That's dark for him..."
If he had been allowed to bring that intensity to Bond, I think his movies would be better ranked.
In the aftermath of his dump from the Bond role by the series' producers, he took on a number of James Bond-esque roles. I've wondered if it was his FU to the Bond producers.

I still haven't seen Brosnan's Bond, but I agree with what you said about The Fourth Protocol. I saw it ages ago expecting to see Remington Steele and was pretty shocked and impressed at how he could pull off a serious spy role. After that he became my pick for the next Bond, but by the time they finally picked him I had fallen out of Bond mania so I never saw his films.
