Discuss World Without End

I love this movie. Classic sci-fi from the 50's. The B-movie budget doesn't stop this movie from being tons of fun. Also, it is obvious that the plot was one of the inspirations for "Planet of the Apes". Does anyone want to discuss the film?

I will!! This is one of my favorite sci-fi movies from the 1950's, which was the Golden Age of sci-fi. It was, as you noticed a low-budget effort, but it had a good plot cast and script. About the only thing to really 'complain' about (and that is not the right word, but a better one escapes me at the moment) was the special effects.

Still, I love this film. Do you have the DVD yet? I got it when it first came out, and I still think that this is one of the best post-apocalyptic films made.

I agree that this is one of the best sci-fi films from the '50's. And I am a huge fan of '50's sci-fi, so that is really saying something. I have never seen the movie on DVD but would love to have it some day. The question that nags at me is "why were the women healthy and vibrant but the men weak and sickly?" The characters even ask this question in the film but I don't think they ever gave an answer. Maybe just one of those unsolved mysteries.

Maybe it was a cultural thing. The many years of--for lack of a better term--'enforced pacifism' could be a factor. Then when our heroes come into the picture, the women, took to them.

What do you think? Am I all wet here?

Culture could be a factor. Maybe the women had to be strong in order to bear children in a harsh environment. It was mentioned that the people were dying out and the children were all sickly and fertility rates were decreasing. Maybe only the strongest females were able to survive childhood.

That's about as far as my thinking takes me. Of course there is the Hollywood answer; They wanted hot women on the movie posters.

Good point. Guys who have seen the movie have commented on the good-looking women.
