Discuss Planet of the Apes

Spoilers

It gives not really one single clue as to how apes came to be the dominant primate species of Earth. The sequels do but they were not even in the planning stages at this time. How uneven to not have any character in this film just talk about how apes grew smart suddenly by scientific genetic injections (or did they just freakishly and naturally jump the evolutionary gun?). The former explanation is hinted at in the third film when they examine the dead ape at the zoo. This film really left too much out.

The theme of never explaining a thing is a key to this movie's plot.

Dr. Zaius, near the end of the movie, when he stops spouting his BS and decides to be truthful, offers a clue as to how humans fell from grace.

"The Forbidden Zone was once a paradise. Your breed made it a desert many ages ago."

How the apes become the dominant species is not important thematically. What is relevant to the movie's message is that humanity, should they continue their destructive tendencies, will destroy themselves.

And I hope I didn't rile you up, either. I appreciate an exchange of ideas as well as the opportunity to view something from another's perspective.

If you did, it's no biggie. I basically took part in this while I was doing something hectic IRL, and I got confused by something you wrote. I guess I misjudged. But hey, for me, one of the best parts of communication is when people are being quite sincere with one another (but not insulting). I don't regret what I posted, because I thought before I wrote it. Maybe it doesn't apply to you, but it is, as you stated, a perspective and people can take something from it.

However, I still haven't seen the whole film yet - and that puts me at a disadvantage in the discussion. I don't know if I'll be seeing it anytime soon... but you and somebody else did at least arouse my genuine curiosity to do so.
