Discuss Bela Lugosi

I think that pretty nearly everyone readily agrees that Mr. Lugosi is easily the all-time most iconic depicter of the Count Dracula character.

Here's the link to his Find A Grave memorial: https://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?GRid=652&page=gr

A site named Find A Grave couldn't be a more perfect place to commemorate Mr. Lugosi, huh? wink

Last October, leading up to Halloween, GetTV broadcast the biographies of all the great horror stars like Karloff, Chaney, and Bela himself. After watching them, I must admit that Karloff was probably the most accomplished actor, but Lugosi came across to me as the most charming of all. Most observers thought his accent was his biggest drawback, but I found it rather appealing. In that GetTV bio, Bela was interviewed as he was being released from a voluntary drug re-hab program in 1956. He spoke nearly unaccented English. I believe he knew the accent was part of his appeal and maintained it on film. Aside from that, he was about the first Hollywood icon to publicly admit he had such a problem. For the 1950's that took A LOT of intestinal fortitude. That only adds to his total appeal package. Kudos for a GREAT career Mr. Lugosi!
