Discuss Mary Crosby

Mary is one of the children of late megastar crooner/actor/entertainer Bing Crosby (1903-1977).

Remember how major it was, back in 1980, when the character, Kristin Shepard, she portrayed on the hit t.v. series Dallas was revealed to have shot J.R. Ewing? That was massive, back then!

That's what Mary is most known for - very famously so.

Very beautiful, very alluring, very good actress, Mary Frances, who later drops the "Frances."

"Dallas" hasn't been rerun very much as far as I could tell, but Mary also graces "Murder, She Wrote," which had been rerun a few times, but not lately around here.

Her TMDb Filmography cites one appearance there, but actually she does two episodes, one in Season Seven with short hair, one in Season Eight with long hair, and both times Miss Crosby knows how to look really guilty when Mrs. Fletcher comes snooping around.

P.S. Hi, Gen. After you and Rude suggested two or three weeks back that I submit corrections like this to TMDb, on its non-General-Discussions' page, I did try with a rather long edition of performers who appear in many episodes of a particular series (TMDb had that one way off although it got some statistics correct.), well, they never did anything about it, so I suppose that they don't really care about most of the rest of us, or how to stand corrected, or something like that.

Greetings, Quite!

You'll be pleased to learn I've just now, after reading your post above, added Mary's other Murder, She Wrote credit, also have added the names of the two different characters she portrayed on that series. grin

As for the list you've mentioned that you submitted to moderators the other week, I'm guessing that a mod will respond before a whole lot longer - though it may not be till multiple more weeks; sometimes it can take them up to around two months to catch up with backlogged older requests (daily the active mods [all the mods are unpaid volunteers, and just a smallish number - probably something like around 7-10 - of them seem to be actually seriously ongoingly active with fielding user requests and handling problems] are also doing a lot of new data entry that's stuff they personally want to add, also hunting down and posting pictures for overviews, profiles, and t.v. series episodes, plus they receive a slew of Content Issues reports regarding errors that users discover, including many duplicate entries that need deletion).

If a mod doesn't respond by the two months point, "bump" the original thread that you submitted (simply add a new comment to that same thread, mentioning you're bumping the thread as it's been a long time since you originally posted it), so it'll reappear at the top of the Content Issues section https://www.themoviedb.org/talk/category/504794a319c29527aa000640 of the Support forum. That'll give it some new "front and centre" visibility - and sometimes a moderator then might get to it that same day or within a day or two.

Having said all of the above, I must regrettably add that where adding credits to movies and t.v. series, etc. is concerned, actually we users are supposed to proactively add whatever we want to be presented for something. Moderators will straighten out errors and problems that get reported, though data entry of cast/crew credits, etc. is supposed to all be done by the users who are personally interested in this or that title or/and actor/actress.

Often with older series members will just add a particular actor's/actress's credit once, or a small smattering of times, to the series. That way the actor/actress gets represented as having appeared in the series, but leaving it to other TMDbers to, over time, fill in the rest of the credits. For example, when I added Mary Crosby to all her Dallas episodes a little while ago (surprisingly no one had ever added her to even one episode, despite how hugely famous her involvement was on that show!), I added solely her to those episodes - leaving it to others to eventually add whomever else they may feel like.

Oh okay, thanks, Gen!

Say, you should get a huge promotion for that (plus all of your other fine work here) to Moderator yourself.

Well, maybe I should have just posted the semi-revised compilation of acting credits for that particular series onto the Television Discussion Board for that program instead of Content Problems.

Oh well, that's okay. Who's in a hurry around here anyway, right? But, back to Mary, this is good that she's back in the spotlight, and being taken care of by way of her acting credits.

Who else was a Dallas suspect for that attempted murder? I'm thinking Alan Beam, Cliff Barnes, SueEllen, Punk, Ray, Bobby, Gary, Poor Valene, Poor Valene's Mother (or did she run down Chip?), Poor Valene's brother, or was he pushed from the roof of one skyscraper onto the roof of a smaller building? Or poor Valene's neighbor's daughter, because the daughters on either side of her hideaway were both found guilty of murdering the men in their lives to prove their self-independence? Or am I mixing up the soap suds here?

I very well still remember seeing Mary, along with her parents and brothers, on the annual Crosby Family Christmas specials. I used to enjoy those, and watched probably every single one of them.

Dallas is a show I followed regularly (though now no longer recall hardly any of the specifics or the story lines). I remember well when the "Who Shot J.R.?" spy_tone2 episode aired, and that I went out of my way to rush home from wherever I was so as not to miss the start of that episode at I think 9p.m. That for sure was absolute must-see t.v. back then!

Wow: It's been 39 years since that episode aired. That was just a few years after Bing (in 1977) died, therefore similar length of time since the final-ever Crosby Family Christmas special aired. Mary had become highly recognizable, throughout the years, from those, growing up from little girl to the very beginning of adulthood.

I noticed yesterday that I created a thread about Bing in 2017: https://www.themoviedb.org/person/24937-bing-crosby/discuss/590a6bcdc3a36843c8008997?language=en-US
