Natalie Wood (born Natalia Nikolaevna Zakharenko), 1938-1981, is one of the big stars of yesteryear and deserving of some comments, shared recollections, and general discussion.
To me she'll always, first and foremost, be the little girl, Susan, in 1947's beloved holiday classic Miracle on 34th Street. Natalie's an absolute delight in that part and seemed born to play it.

Honestly not too familiar with her - I do love West Side Story Wasn't she quite young when she started out? Probably should catch more movies she's been in.

Yes: She was just a child when starting out - and quickly became a major child star of her era. She transitioned very smoothly into and through teen roles straight into adulthood starring roles, never missing a beat.

It's too bad that her death is an unsolved mystery -- she may not be resting in peace..

Did anyone see Love With a Proper Stranger? She stars with Steve McQueen, a lesser known movie (I think) but an excellent one.

Such a different role for Steve McQueen is this move. He shows a more gentler and loving side of him while still keeping his cheeky and rebel side (if that makes sense)

Love with a Proper Stranger is a favorite of mine. I love the scenes of NYC in that time frame. I think Natalie Wood and Steve McQueen had perfect chemistry.
One of the best scenes was the dinner at Tom Bosley's house. His sisters were a riot!

She has that something...don't want to say je ne sais quoi but kinda like that - captivating to watch like I want to know what she will do next. West Side Story's okay, not really her singing voice but still like it. My fave movie of hers is Splendor in the Grass - she & Warren Beatty looked good as a couple.

I think her husband had a lot more to do with her death than he is telling.

Regarding her name and tragic fate, there's long been a decidedly tasteless (though rather funny) joke that Natalie Wood is the only wood that doesn't float.

Right, you hear a lot of decidedly tasteless jokes about celebrities, when they should be directed at politicians instead.
Another intensely tasteless joke going around has it that Natalie Wood, but Tab Hunter wouldn't.
N Wood - great in many things from child star through leading lady. You can clearly see why Hollywood could showcase her brilliant talent, sweet disposition, and outstanding beauty.
But if there's one dud on N Wood's resume, then this would have have to be Inside Daisy Clover (1965-6). Even with C Plummer and R Redford and R McDowall playing her top-tier suitors, nobody can see what their characters see in that dull, antagonistic D Clover character. R Gordon also plays an unsympathetic character there although she's usually good, too.
