Discuss Sammi Davis

I was surprised to find that I quite enjoyed - everybody looked so young !! Good performances all round except for Sammi Davis - her expression with constantly opened mouth got on my nerves! I see she hasn't acted since 2004 - has she retired? One implausibility was giving Bob Hoskins an SAS background - he's such a little in it didn't strike me as believable!!

You're talking about Mona Lisa, right? It's a good film.

The best showcase of Sammi Davis which I have seen is Hope & Glory, in which she is both touching and very funny. It's a shame her career never went too far after such an impressive start. I believe she has now quit acting and works as a photographer.

Sorry - I thought I was in the film section rather than the actress Doh...!! No, I am talking about "A prayer for the dying". I have seen Mona Lisa and it is indeed an excellent film with a great performance from Bob et all. I am not surprised that Sammi Davis gave up acting - I don't think she would have risen to any greater heights than she had already.

I see - I haven't seen A Prayer for the Dying. No, it's very hard to imagine Hoskins convincingly portraying a former SAS man.

I guess I see where you are coming from about Sammi, but I do think she is a loss to acting. She had the makings of a charming and singular character actress, and it seems she had range (I haven't seen it, but have heard that she is terrific in Ken Russell's film of D.H. Lawrence's The Rainbow, too).

Yes - I heard about her ability in The Rainbow too - maybe this was just the wrong role for her - it is very difficult to play a blind person convincingly. I'm glad to hear she has had a successful career in photography though - probably a less stressful career choice anyway !!!
