Discuss Richard Donner

Man, Richard Donner was one of my absolute favorite directors of all-time. His movies had heart, wit, phenomenal action, and pacing. In every behind-the-scenes interview it was clear that he directed with humor and humility. I mean seriously:

  • Superman
  • Superman II (the good version)
  • The Goonies
  • Lethal Weapon (all of them)
  • The Omen
  • Scrooged (an X-Mas comedy up there with Christmas Vacation)

He was also behind many very popular franchises as a producer. When I look back at movies of the 80's and 90's, his name sits with my all-time favorite action/adventure directors like McTiernan, Cameron, and even Spielberg (in his action/adventure days.)

Man, it sucks to watch those that you admire get old and die. He lived to a ripe old age of 91 but I'd sure like to have seen him go on making movies until I kicked the bucket.

R.I.P. Mr. Donner.

Well, that's some thoroughly depressing news to wake up to.

Thanks for the wonderful films, Mr Donner.

Rest In Peace

He sure did direct my beloved Superman II. For anyone who digs comicbook movies and hasn't seen it, check it out. The street fight between Supes and General Zod & co. became the prototype for parts of so much of these MCU films that are making money hand over fist nowadays... it's interesting to see how these things evolve. R.I.P. Richard Donner.
