Discuss Henry Cavill

One poster is complaining about the negativity level of this board, so I’m introducing this topic (a fave in the old IMDB discussion board) that has not been set up here yet. Hopefully it would draw some ‘positivity’.

State your top 3 (or 4 or 5) HC roles, and tell us why.

Let me start with my personal favourites.

  1. Brandon, Duke of Suffolk in the Tudors — HC’s main strengths (his looks and English accent) are taken advantage here greatly. However, the fact that The Tudors is a TV show gave him the opportunity to stretch his acting muscles because his character followed a great trajectory and development in its 4 seasons. It was nice to see his character (and his portrayal) evolve from being a selfish cad to someone more mature, caring and affected by years of war, witnessing Henry VIII’s abuses and having a growing conscience. Definitely, my fave role so far, which is why I think he should find another well-written TV show (be it a Games of Thrones type or even another well-made adaptation of another book).

  2. Theseus in Immortals — Not a big fan of how Tarsem changed the myth (I’m a Greek mythology enthusiast), but HC’s lean looks was quite something! I like his physique here better than his overbulked Superman. His love for his mother in this role was touching.

  3. Randy in Whatever Works — Many fans of his hate this film. But I liked it. HC’s earnest portrayal of a keen very open lover/admirer was cute. I wish he’d star in more romantic comedies.

I am a bit conflicted with Superman. While he looked the part, Snyder’s vision of a more angsty (depressed?) Kal-El is a bit of a turn-off. It doesn’t help I didn’t see the chemistry between him and Amy Adams’ Lois Lane (not a big a fan of Amy’s portrayal of her, but it could be Snyder’s fault again). I would be interested to see if they would somehow build his relationship with Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman because I can see the potential chemistry between them (and I am for team Superman and Wonder Woman).

I think this may be the first time in history that you cracked me up. For reals. I pass on the b*tching, it makes my head feel full. =)

I'm surprised you can get through that diatribe of Triksy aka 18%.

I don't know if I love the bitching, a little bit of drama is entertaining, the negativity though is not the same. If that makes any sense. I think too much Henry ripping, like I said it's like no one likes him even. Oh well.

I can get that, but this thread wasn't negative. You brought it. You can look at the posts and see that no one said anything. They were soft as snowflakes. Normally, I stay away because it's too much blandness. Seriously, picking the best of HC's acting, is like separating white from rice.

And there are no other HC forums otherwise my ass be on there.

What about the fan sites? That's 100% pure butt kissing. Otherwise, you have to admit you come accustomed to the ebb and flow of the board and leave it at that.

I don't recall Scarlet or Salt posting here nor JenMitchel.

I saw Jen's name. She's a recent returnee.

I visit HCNews. That's about it. Not into WDW. No other sites that I know of.

Lets see...

1 - The Tudors. I liked him the best in season 1 and 3. I wish they would have written his character losing some of his children to the sweating sickness, which is what happened to the real Charles Brandon, I would have liked to see him perform to that kind of emotion.

2 - The Count of Monte Christo. (One of my favorite movies of all time.)

3 - Man of Steal

I know no one will agree with me on the next one, but I thought he had a decent performance in The Cold Light of Day. The movie sucked. But just for one sec, take out some of the endless foot chases, shoot-outs, and car chases that pretty much mostly dominated the movie and focus on his performance.......I thought it was decent. thumbsup

Actually, I do agree with you about The Cold Light of Day. The movie sucked, but his performance, as you said was decent. I also liked his physique best in this movie - a nice middle ground between The Immortals and his bulky frame in Man of Steel.

Did you see the part when he was on the bus, and he had to tell his mother his dad was dead?

It's been a while since I watched it, but that part doesn't stand out in my head. Bad? Well, I did say "decent", he has never done any roles that just blew me away with his performance (yet?).

The decent acting starts at 30:30.

  1. Tudors
  2. Man From Uncle
  3. Immortals
  4. Superman
  5. Whatever Works- I find him puppy dog charming in this

Ok, I don't know how I forgot about Man from Uncle, but I am going to put that one at 3 and Man of Steel is getting bumped to 4.

In no particular order:

Count of Monte Cristo Tristan & Isolde Man from Uncle I Captured the Castle
