Your article is from March 2011 and the episodes have only been broadcasted in September of that year. So, it can't be what they do, but only what they planned to do.

And here, you have an archived of the main FX page from January 19, 2012 with a banner clearly indicating that it is the day of the Season premiere.

Ok. Fair enough. Well, your link from TWO YEARS after the season aired showing only 10 episodes, proves nothing since FX shows it as 13 episodes now. Your links to NON-FX sources showing ratings means nothing. Neither show what FX did. So please give me proof to the contrary. Cause right now, an article from the Network President showing what he ordered, AND that the idea from the beginning was to split-air Season 3, which is exactly what happened, is more clear-cut than anything you have shown so far.

That link just gives an XML Date error and then redirects to a different site that shows the full schedule. I see no banner.

Other networks, like Comedy Central, have shown "Season Premier" when a season is split. I've seen it for South Park specifically since they are notorious for splitting their seasons. AMC did it as well for the finale season of The Walking Dead. It's called an "Attention Grab" to get people excited.

I finally found the archives of the page that is supposed to contain the episodes list at the time of the broadcast of these epîsodes. Unfortunately, the episodes themselves haven't been archived.

But,

• on the September 23, 2011 archive (during the broadcast of "Heart of Archness"), the dropdown give choice between "Season 1", "Season 2" and "3 Episode Assignment" (no mention of season 3). This appear like this up to the December 14, 2011 archive
• starting from the December 28, 2011 archive, the dropdown give choice between "Season 1", "Season 2" and "Season 3".

This confirm that, at the time of their original broadcast, these episodes weren't considered as being part of season 3, as it is announced in 3rd parties sites:

• Chicago Tribune
• Collider

As indicated just above, they weren't part of the 3rd season at the time of their original broadcast.

The article I posted from the FX President apparently wasn't enough, and he was the guy who ordered the Season. 🤦‍♂️ "BUT that one FX web admin put a banner up saying it was the start of the season!!" Cause they get the memos from the President. Even FX now lists them as part of the season.
