Honestly, I just took a look back at the seasons & other than putting season 1 first & season 8 last, I couldn't make up my mind on the rest. There are things I loved/liked but also things I really hated about the rest. It's just too hard.

Around S5 was when they began laying off on the exposed female flesh. The series just went steadily downhill with each passing episode, even when we still got moments of unmatched brilliance, such as The Battle Of The Bas-ards

I think the battle of the illegitimate sons was the high point of the show. Best medieval battle I've ever seen in any film or tv show anywhere.

Tie between that and The Battle Of Blackwater

Really? I thought that one was a bit average. It was great in the books but in the show it was done back when the budget was still low and wasn't particularly visceral or exciting. Looked like a very average, unmemorable battle to me. I thought even the battle against the whitewalkers in the last season was better than that. The bit where they charge off into the distance to fight them and you see all the torches go out one by one in the dark was a nice way of using innovation to tell the story. Nothing stuck in the mind from The Blackwater other than the twist at the end.

Season 3

Season 1

Season 2

Season 8

All the rest-- I'm kind of with bratface on that one, can't really make up my mind, and for me, Seasons 4, 5, 6, 7, were really sort of forgettable compared to the four seasons above, with a few notable exceptions. I know I will likely face severe blowback for ranking Season 8 so high, but I really thought they did what they needed to do within the compressed timeframe of that season, and I thought "The Bells" was absolutely phenomenal in its portrayal of a city undergoing an apocalypse-- in a medieval-type setting or anywhere else. See my thread "Season 8-- A Defense" for this show if you'd like a more in-depth answer. My only major complaint about Season 8 is that, in my view, the Red Witch did not get a suitable (read horrific) death, after that earlier season where she pushed for the burning of that poor little girl.
