Sean contacts Roxy and Stacey as the new year dawns, but what is he planning?

Meanwhile Ricky tries to bring new year cheer to Bianca's brood, and Danielle betrays Stacey.

Sean returns to say goodbye to Roxy and Amy, Whitney struggles to fit in, and Shirley starts Heather's year with a bang.

Ronnie returns to the Square with good news for her family as Roxy prepares to tell her about Sam's disappearance. Phil recruits Max in a plan to con Ian out of thousands, but their scheme soon goes awry, while Whitney is told about Tony's attempted suicide ahead of his trial.

With time running out for Phil, he and Max put the finishing touches to their scam, unaware that Ian and Masood have rumbled them. Roxy realises that Owen is the father of Ronnie's unborn child as Liz wonders about her son's whereabouts, while Whitney secretly writes Tony a letter.

Arriving home, Alfie’s swept up in the Vic’s New Year celebrations. Fed up of hospital, Kat pulls out her drip, commandeers a taxi and heads home.

Every time Alfie tries to get upstairs to see Tommy, something stops him. He finds Charlie slumped in a corner, drunk. After sorting out Fat Boy, Kim and the sound system, Alfie finally makes it upstairs.

When Kat arrives home, she’s surprised by the quiet atmosphere in the bar. Excited, Kat bursts into the bedroom, but stops when she sees paramedics with a sombre Alfie, Charlie and Mo. Kat realises her baby’s dead.

Ronnie returns to the flat holding a baby. Roxy arrives and finds Ronnie shaking and tearful. Roxy asks what’s wrong, Ronnie tells her it’s James. Roxy’s relieved to find a perfectly healthy baby in the cot and doesn’t realise it’s Tommy, not James.

Ronnie’s about to tell Roxy what’s happened but Christian interrupts them, guilt ridden after kissing the piper. Roxy leaves, promising she’ll come back in the morning. Ronnie suddenly realises what she’s done, she has to give Tommy back now.

On her way across the Square, Ronnie realises she’s too late when she sees an ambulance and Kat arriving home. Just then Jack gets out of a taxi – he’s finally home and is thrilled to see his wife and new son.

Carol agrees Connor can stay, but when Bianca rings to say Whitney’s on the way home, she sends him away. Connor passes Whitney in the Square. She invites him home, but he claims he’s not feeling well. Whitney’s upset so Connor kisses her.

Everyone’s drunk at the Vic. Kim flirts with Fat Boy, Jane falls into Masood’s lap and Jodie tells Darren he’s lovely when he nearly proposes. Ricky tries to find Whitney a new man.

An alienated Whitney misreads signals and ruins her friendship with Lauren as a result. Janine goes to extreme lengths to scrape together money for the rent. And Patrick and Kim get Alfie to turn on the romance.

Max needs Whitney to fix the mess she has made, but she ends up burning all her bridges in Walford and turning to her new friend for help. Zainab's decision to keep the Square's new resident a secret from Masood comes back to bite her, and Heather discovers Julie's secret.

Rainie cannot contain her hatred following Tanya's revelation about their father, and tells her sister she wants her to die. Pat talks to Roxy about Derek's violent past, while Lola is nowhere to be found when the social worker calls - so Billy risks everything by asking Abi to take her place.

Phil receives a series of ominous text messages, and Shirley is certain Rainie is responsible. Roxy and Jack prepare for a custody hearing, Masood and Zainab discuss their divorce, and Yusef tries to talk Amira into moving to Pakistan with Yasmin - hoping that if she agrees to go, then Zainab will follow

Denise puts up posters branding Phil a murderer, but Shirley tries to stop her vengeful campaign, insisting this is not what Kevin would have wanted. Alfie starts to panic when he struggles to answer questions from a marriage guidance counsellor, while Ricky and Janine make a worrying discovery as they begin to plan Pat's funeral

Phil discovers the dangers of having Denise as an enemy when she corners him at the garage. Alfie asks a friend to pretend to be a marriage counsellor, hoping he can persuade Kat their relationship is stable, but his plan backfires. Elsewhere, Amira tries to cling onto Syed, while David and Carol force Bianca to tell them the truth about Ricky and Mandy

Max struggles to fight his attraction to Roxy when he takes part in a poker game at Alfie's. He is joined at the table by his brothers - and while Derek sets about intimidating the other players, Jack remains upset at being kept apart from Amy. Michael tries to figure out where he stands with Janine, and Marsden's taunts leave Shirley more concerned than ever about Ben's statement

Jay struggles to cope with his guilty conscience when George comes to stay with the Mitchells. He leaves the house in an attempt to clear his head - but receives a chilling reminder of how much trouble Andrew could be in. Patrick calls the police after making a discovery at the allotments, and Dot, Cora and Rose break into R&R to search for Andrew's missing jumper. Meanwhile, Ben tells Roxy that he is sorry about what he did to Heather

Jay summons the courage to talk to the police. Lauren realises her 18th birthday might not be a happy one, when she discovers Whitney cannot afford a big night out. Alfie considers firing Jean to save money, Rose and Dot argue about Andrew's innocence and Ian helps Bobby make a family tree - but Mandy is annoyed that she is not on it
