After dominating the entire game and taking possession of the ball on the Colt's two-yard line with 1:20 remaining and leading 21-18 it looked as though Pittsburgh had secured the upset victory. However, a Bettis fumble and a Ben Roethlisberger game-saving tackle led to a dramatic 46-yard field attempt by Colt's kicker, Mike Vanderjagt. The kick would sail wide right, sending Pittsburgh to the AFC Championship Game.
