In the series premiere of this drama, a hospital error that involved sending two newborns home with the wrong families is uncovered years later, when the girls are teenagers. The girls went on to lead very different lives: Artistic Bay Kennish (Vanessa Marano) grew up in a world of privilege, while athletic Daphne Vasquez (Katie Lecleric) was raised by a single mother and contracted an illness that left her deaf at a young age.

Kathryn questions why Regina isn't joining in the lawsuit against the hospital. Meanwhile, Daphne goes out with Liam and encounters new difficulties dating a hearing person; and Bay finds a kindred spirit in Ty, who hails from Daphne's old neighborhood.

Kathryn hosts a fund-raiser for Buckner Hall, and Toby's band provides the evening's entertainment. Meanwhile, Daphne is crushed to find out that she's been dating Bay's ex-boyfriend; and John and Melody's new friendship makes Kathryn uneasy.

Daphne follows Emmett to a music festival, hoping to get some private time with him. Elsewhere, John requests that Regina be present when Bay sees Angelo again; and Kathryn secretly talks to a nurse who could assist in the lawsuit against the hospital.

Melody attributes Emmett's troublemaking behavior to Bay. Elsewhere, Regina becomes Angelo's business partner; Daphne's displeased with her basketball coach; and Kathryn and John face a possible setback in their lawsuit because of their lawyer.

Angelo attends a dinner at the Kennishs' home. Meanwhile, Bay helps Emmett move into his dad's place, where they meet his father's girlfriend; and Daphne and Wilke go out on a date.

Bay returns from a trip abroad with a new boyfriend, but she must face issues from her past concerning Emmett and Angelo. Meanwhile, Daphne seeks employment help from Kathryn; and Regina impulsively makes a big decision.

Daphne causes a huge mishap at the restaurant, and she grows closer with her boss in the aftermath. Elsewhere, Bay manipulates a situation with her two dads to get what she wants; and Kathryn is envious of the attention an interviewer showers on Regina.

Daphne struggles to decipher Jeff's signals. Elsewhere, Bay and Zarra try to find out who's ruining their street art.

In the first-season finale, the trial ends with a surprising outcome. Meanwhile, Bay leaves with Zarra and doesn't inform anyone; and Daphne and Jeff's romance is revealed.

In the second-season opener, a newly wealthy Angelo buys expensive presents for everyone. Meanwhile, John and Kathryn contemplate entering the political arena; Bay faces cheating accusations; and Daphne lands in hot water because of Jeff.

Daphne and Travis quarrel, while Bay and Noah's romance thrives. Elsewhere, Toby becomes intrigued by a new girl who's working as a volunteer for his dad's campaign.

Daphne leads her classmates in a protest against the closing of their school, and Bay's efforts to join them are met with resistance. The episode is presented entirely through American Sign Language.

Angelo becomes a member of the country club. Meanwhile, Regina begins a new job; Kathryn's position as a senator's wife leads her to have an awkward encounter; Daphne is unsure about Jace's feelings; and Bay uncovers new info about Ty and Mary Beth.

Toby prepares for his wedding, and his parents contemplate being truthful with him. Meanwhile, Bay seeks a long-distance romance with Ty in the face of his redeployment; and Daphne is forced to own up to her mistakes.

Kathryn's book is leaked before it's published. Meanwhile, Bay is skeptical about Emmett's new girlfriend; Daphne has an unexpected encounter at the clinic with someone from her past; and Regina feels a sense of guilt about her behavior.

With both Emmett and Daphne heading off to college, Bay finds that taking the blame for Daphne may be harder than she thought.
