Bay becomes curious about her birth father. Meanwhile, Kathryn deals with her nosy neighbors; and John takes an interest in Daphne's basketball games and meets Melody (Marlee Matlin), a friend of Regina's who works at Daphne's school.

Regina pleads with Daphne to keep her secret about what was in the guitar case, but soon the hospital board reveals info that forces Regina to spill everything. Meanwhile, Bay and Emmett's bond intensifies.

Melody attributes Emmett's troublemaking behavior to Bay. Elsewhere, Regina becomes Angelo's business partner; Daphne's displeased with her basketball coach; and Kathryn and John face a possible setback in their lawsuit because of their lawyer.

Emmett photographs Bay and Daphne's blended family for a school assignment. Meanwhile, Regina gets acquainted with an art-gallery owner; Daphne questions Simone's trustworthiness; and Bay and Emmett divulge their true feelings to each other.

Bay must testify in Emmett's custody case, and Emmett's actions threaten to end their relationship. Elsewhere, a nervous Daphne prepares for a basketball tournament between her current and former teams; and Kathryn has a meeting with a New York editor.

Daphne causes a huge mishap at the restaurant, and she grows closer with her boss in the aftermath. Elsewhere, Bay manipulates a situation with her two dads to get what she wants; and Kathryn is envious of the attention an interviewer showers on Regina.

The trial involving the hospital's error gets under way. Meanwhile, Bay tries to return the cash she secretly took from John; Daphne and Jeff's relationship encounters obstacles; and Toby starts a new band.

The Carlton students learn the outcome of their protest. Meanwhile, John's campaign concludes abruptly; Emmett contemplates telling Bay about Daphne and Noah's kiss; Lana's labor begins; and an inebriated Regina turns up at Angelo's door.

Toby and Nikki's relationship is strained by work and wedding planning, so Bay tries to help Toby find a release by booking a gig for his band. Meanwhile, Regina and Bay's messiness irks Angelo; and Jace introduces Daphne to a new adventure.

Angelo's relationship with Bay is tested as he fights for custody of his infant daughter. Elsewhere, Daphne and Jace stumble onto a possible political scandal; Nikki learns that Toby's reconnected with Simone; and Emmett sets up a blind date for his mom.

Toby prepares for his wedding, and his parents contemplate being truthful with him. Meanwhile, Bay seeks a long-distance romance with Ty in the face of his redeployment; and Daphne is forced to own up to her mistakes.
