Discuss The Originals

SPOILERS

Well, we lost a central character to the show this week. I wonder how many we will lose during the remaining episodes. I recall the first season, the first episode I think it was, when Klaus was informed that Hayley was pregnant with his child but her life was in danger from the witches. Klaus's initial reaction was something along the lines of "let her die, what do I care?" He professed similar feelings toward his unborn child. It took some time but he has developed real feelings for Hayley, and an absolute devotion to his child.
This episode saw both of their lives in danger. As the series winds its way to its conclusion the stories of individual characters are being tied up, closed out. Hayley, in an act of motherly love and self sacrifice threw herself and the vampire intent upon killing her daughter into the sunlight, causing them both to burn up completely. Goodbye Hayley. Upon seeing this Klaus shouted NO, then stood there in shock and grief.

I am sure it will turn to anger by the next episode.

Vincent and Freya both have love interests, which seem to be the "real thing". Freya fretted that she has had to put her personal relationship on hold once again because of the family drama, and the need for her talents in helping them. I see the groundwork being laid now for her eventually leaving to live out her mortal life with her girlfriend. How will she ever be free to do that with the Michaelsons alive and getting into continual crises? My guess is that Klaus, and Elijah, and Rebecca, will wind up committing the ultimate sacrifice in order to save Hope, and the others they have come to love. I am betting they will go out together, "always and forever". But that is many episodes away still.

Will Marcel undo the compulsion he put on Elijah making him forget his always and forever promise in order to stop him aiding the rouge vampires in the coming war? Not without being forced into it. But at some point I think Elijah will be freed from that compulsion, somehow.

As Hayley indicated in this episode, I believe Hope will prove to be the great uniter, bringing the continual wars between the vampire, werewolf, and witch factions to an end. I am betting that in the series finale the Originals will realize that she has this potential, but that she can never reach this potential while the Original family, with the dark witch curse elements within each of them, remain "alive".
That will be their great redemption, self sacrifice for the good of all. I think it will go something like that.

They should pass a law that when I like a show they can't cancel it; they can't even take summer breaks. They just have to keep making it until I get tired of it or something. hahahaha

Wouldn't that be wonderful. I have a few I would have liked to last longer (but I would give them an 8 week summer break):

Person of Interest

Fringe

Life

Lie To Me

I Love Lucy

The Wire

Game of Thrones (although there was way too much time between seasons)

I see though that my least favorite person from the beginning (Elijah is just this season) Davina is in tonight's episode.

Well now I am feeling more sure the writers are going to find a way for all the pining couples to hook up in the finale. The segments showing Hayley covertly meeting with Elijah in Paris, and her comments to him after they danced make it almost a certainty they will somehow get together in the end. Perhaps Elijah will find a way to die, perhaps in a sacrifice to save Hope, and meet Hayley in the afterlife. Marcel and Rebecca are sure to hook up with no argument from Klaus this time. Klaus? Will he also sacrifice himself in order to save Hope and meet Cammie in the afterlife? We already saw Josh meet up with his werewolf boyfriend in the hereafter. I would guess Vincent will find his love somehow as well. There will be some big thing where New Orleans will find peace finally, all the factions will work it out or something like that.
I have had a feeling that several of the originals would sacrifice themselves in order to save Hope ever since they had to split up in order to keep the magic from destroying Hope and everything in N.O.. Things have been a little bit surprising in some respects but other things are going about how I thought they might.

If Hope is supposed to be in the spin-off then we know that she won't die. I just hope that Klaus doesn't either. I too would like Rebecca & Marcel to finally get together but we shall see.

Is there a spin off planned for this show? I don't recall if I heard about this, I don't think I did. Do you know what it's going to be called?

It's called Legacies. Here is an article (including a trailer):

I can't believe you haven't heard anything about it. Although I won't be watching it, as with VD it is/will be too teen centric.

Yeah I thought it might be when you said Hope would be in it. She seems like a actress who appeals to the teenie crowd. That's too bad. I probably won't like it either. Oh crap. I just watched the trailer. It's a high school teen love thing. Awful. Damn it.

I want Elijah to die a very slow & painful death! I have never really liked Elijah (too stuffy) but he's important to Klaus so I tolerated him. But Elijah knows who he is & he still let Haley die.

I find myself differing with Elijah at times. He is stuffy as you say. But that isn't the worst thing about him; he doesn't back up Rebecca when he ought to. When she wanted to make an ally of a strong witch to protect herself against Klaus when he becomes tyrannical (which happens very often) Elijah said he was surprised at her, that he expected such machinations from Klaus, but not her. And he said 'don't you see that in his way he's trying?' or something like that. Elijah has some guilt complex about Klaus because of what happened when they were kids and the old man got Elijah to help him bind Klaus to a cross or something. So he sort of overlooks Klaus's outrageous behavior.

How does Klaus think he has the right to tell Rebecca who she can or cannot date? If she disagrees with him or asserts her independence he daggers her and puts her in a box for decades. Elijah is supposed to be the fair, sane brother. But he never tells Klaus that Rebecca has the right to date whomever and that Klaus has no authority to tell her she cannot see someone; his attitude toward Rebecca is that she shouldn't be too critical of Klaus. Sticking a dagger in her chest and leaving her in a coffin for nearly a century? Oh that's just Klaus being Klaus. No, she should try to see things from Klaus' point of view and try not to upset him. I'm a guy. But I have to side with Rebecca on this. Klaus is way out of line and Elijah just enables him.

In Dance Back from the Grave S1E12 Rebecca is concerned that Klaus is gaining more and more power since he now leads all the vampires, which is why she sought to make an ally of a powerful witch. Elijah talks to Rebecca saying perhaps Klaus leading 'this pack of derelicts' will give him some degree of happiness. Rebecca "you always talk of Nick's happiness, but for a thousand years he has robbed me of any chance of my own. What about me Elijah? Am I not a concern for you?"

Elijah: "We all make sacrifices in the name of this family Rebecca but know this. I will never stand against you or Nicklaus."

Elijah supports Nick's actions if they might make Nick happy, but when it comes to Rebecca's happiness, she has to "make sacrifices in the name of this family".

So Elijah applies a double standard here. And he has a somewhat condescending tone in his voice as he does.

So you have seen tonight's episode already? I still have 67 minutes until it airs in my neck of the woods.

Spoilers

I just finished it. This season has been really good, but I do hate to see this come to an end. I don't want to see Klaus or Elijah die, just in the off chance they may make an appearance in the Legends series. I have a feeling that it's going to be Elijah that ends up taking in the dark magic tho. The whole scene with Hailey and the message she gave Hope to pass onto Elijah just seems a bit too convenient for Klaus to end up dying. Can't help but feel a wee bit sad for Jackson tho, lol. He kind of always gets the short end of the stick, even in the afterlife.

*Legends was supposed to be Legacies 😏

I am in total agreement with you on GOT, although I take solace in the fact that 4 or 5 spin off shows have been green lit through HBO. There is just way too much source material to leave that series with GOT. Not to mention that HBO, I'm sure, would do anything to keep the hype going for everything GOT related. Stories that were just briefly mentioned in the novels could provide ideas for an entire series. I would love to see the history of the Targaryen's, and the history of Valyria. I have heard the first series that is to be released will be a prequel, so that's good news. I just hope it's not going to be Robert's Rebellion. I think we saw and heard enough about that, but I would still watch it of course, lol.

I will post more tomorrow when I've had a bit more time to ruminate on everything. But I will say this, the focus on the school & townspeople made me think I was watching the Gilmore Girls. Don't get me wrong I loved the GG BUT I do not want to see cheerleaders & car washes when I am watching The Originals. This is the reason I didn't watch VD.

I will watch it on demand later today.

update: OK I watched it. I see what you mean. It's like they started the sequel in this episode. It wasn't just the cheerleaders and the car wash and milkshakes, etc. The show also had the interactions between teenagers, mean "cool" teens hassling the shy teen boy Hope likes. And we saw Hope getting revenge in a non violent manner against the mean teens. Hope danced with the shy boy, teen love. It was a prequel episode of the sequel show. It was almost like The Originals was already finished and gone and we were watching the first episode of Legacies.

The last episode should be more like The Originals I would imagine. It will be full of tie ins to the first four seasons, the salient parts. I still expect to see the various couples somehow finding happiness together either here or in the next realm. I expect a lot of feel good conclusions to various story arcs left unfinished up to now. I hope they don't make it treacly sweet with long drawn out maudlin emotional scenes. Of course they will have a farewell to Klaus with flashbacks. And it will give Klaus a final opportunity to redeem himself with everyone. He will give his blessing to Marcel and Rebecca I think. He will make an effort to heal wounds and make up with all the family members. The werewolves and vampires will come to terms I bet. I guess the witches will be appeased as well somehow. I don't know. But I would prefer it if, true to the witch vision, Hope somehow spells the end of the witches altogether.

I wonder how many of the dead and gone characters will show up in the final episode?
