When Beverly refuses to give Barry special treatment, Murray pushes Barry to work hard and prove to her that he can get a good grade. Meanwhile, after accidentally embarrassing Emmy by reading a note about her in class, Adam enlists Erica’s help to be a better friend.

Beverly is on a mission to transform Adam into a teenage heartthrob after a local kid talent agent insists he’s only right for nerd roles. Meanwhile, Barry decides to go punk and Murray attempts to become more involved in Erica’s life, but it backfires.

The Goldberg kids have big plans on prom night, all of which go awry. The night includes Barry's big romantic gestures for Lainey; Erica's attempt to go to prom with Geoff; and Adam being asked out by a nerdy but cute junior.

Hoping to get the true spring break experience, Erica and Barry visit Pops in Florida, yet it’s nothing how they expected. Meanwhile, Adam tells the truth to Beverly and Murray but then gets a surprising reaction.

Meanwhile, when Emmy starts dating a cool guy, Adam thinks their friendship is in jeopardy, so he sets out to be cooler which backfires.

It’s Adam’s 16th birthday, but his parents are too distracted by Barry and Lainey’s engagement and Erica’s band ambitions to remember their youngest son’s big day. The situation presents an opportunity for Adam to ask Erica to put him on the high school social map. Meanwhile, Beverly thinks she can scare Barry and Lainey straight with the reality of being adults.

Adam’s girlfriend, Jackie, is back after spending her summer at NYU; she has changed so much, it’s almost like she’s a whole different person. After receiving some not-so-great romantic advice from his loved ones, Adam takes drastic measures to hold on to his relationship. Adam returns to William Penn Academy as a senior and wrestles with the fact that he is a cool kid and no longer a nerd while his original friend group isn’t as lucky. Meanwhile, Beverly attempts to have a more grown-up relationship with Erica and Barry before they head back to college.

Adam sets out to create a movie that will tackle racism but realizes he is out of his depth on the subject due to his sheltered upbringing. Meanwhile, Geoff is determined to teach Erica and Barry to become better people.

After realizing there may be trouble in lovers' paradise for Erica and Geoff, Beverly involves herself in their relationship as well as Barry and Joanne's to make sure everyone stays together. Meanwhile, Adam and Brea are cast opposite of each other in the school play, but their excitement for one another's success grows dim when one starts to outshine the other onstage.
