I agree with what everyone said. We're all in agreement that the whole Mon-El thing has gone way too far and done damage to the show's brand.
The funny thing is I didn't realize that I liked the show until this season. Because then it started making me want to see the things that made season 1 a lot better. The focus was on Supergirl (and thus Melissa who is the entire reason I'm even watching the show), her interactions, and her evolvement. It was a lot more warm and fun, and it all flowed a lot better.
This whole season has been cold and dark and depressing. I hope next season is totally different.
I agree completely. The Flash has been similar. It started more light hearted and fun but has gotten darker and darker as time goes by. Then of course the writers always put themselves in a corner.
Don't miss her, she can stay one or two episodes but that's it, she still talks to the air like no ones around, not as humble as Lois, and they both came from nothing
I agree, I really don't get the love for Cat. Sure she gives Kara decent advice but the "I'm the Queen B and better than everyone else" attitude is too much for my taste.

It's all camp and tongue-in-cheek. It's deliberately overdone to be humorous. I can't believe anyone thinks it's real.

I don't think anyone thinks it's real and it's definitely camp. But within the context of camp there must be consistency and reasonable made-up rules for suspension of disbelief. Supergirl this season has "flown" outside the boundaries of that unwritten agreement between writer and viewer. The one consistent holding it all together is actress Melissa Benoist. She deserves so much credit and is underrated for her contribution IMO. And I don't mind she has a love interest. That was inevitable for Superman and it's inevitable here. He's sort of the Paul Rudd nice guy next door type. On the surface, a nice match for the girl-next-door Kara. But please, does he have to be neutered? Are the writers afraid that if they gave him some mojo macho it would detract from Supergirl? They gave James Olson some teeth. Why not Mon-El?
I always thought they could bring Superman into more episodes. In finale they finally do, but he's under mind control. Again, the writers are afraid giving Superman his mojo cape would lessen Supergirl somehow. And now they've concocted this silly plot where they fight each other to prove girls can play running back in the NFL. Yes. Campy fun. Maybe too campy.

It has nothing to do with thinking it's real. All of these super hero shows are campy to an extent and I realize that, I just don't find Cat Grant appealing. Her over the top personality is more annoying to me than humorous. It's just like on Arrow a lot of people don't seem to like Felicity and blame her for ruining the show. I personally love Felicity, but realize that she's not everyone's taste.
