I haven't been watching and was hoping a thread like this one would be created, so I could decide whether to start watching again. But reading the other threads, the new writing regime didn't seem too promising.

I think the fact that this board is so dead lately and no one is responding to this thread indicates that folks are not even bothering to watch anymore.

My first thought was that Mulcahey (who used to write for the show in the early days of his soap writing career) hadn't seen GH in a long time. And I think any time a "new" headwriter comes in and a bunch of personality transplants occur with the established characters, it is because that writer hasn't been watching and isn't interested in studying the way the characters are "supposed to be." Yes, I know sometimes characters need to be revised to open up new story avenues, but in this case, it seems like an awful lot of the characters have abruptly changed their behaviors overnight. It alienates the core audience (and let's face it, the core audience is already smaller than it used to be).

My second thought was that Elizabeth Korte should know these characters very well since she's been with the show continuously for so many years. So even if Mulcahey isn't yet fully up to speed, then she should smooth out the continuity issues.

But it seems like this duo is not (yet) really gelling. The fans don't need Sonny & Carly every day of the week, but they still need something familiar and recognizable.

The main problem is that the character changes have been abrupt rather than gradually developed. Just a few weeks ago Drew wanted to destroy Nina. Then suddenly he has sex with her? Just a month ago Anna and Sonny were supportive friends. Now she wants him prosecuted? Carly hated Cates, now she’s flirting with him? Sam suddenly hates Jason and won’t let Danny see him? It’s all too severe and abrupt.

People bitched about Guza and Carlavati, but they were much more consistent writers.

They need to go back and looks at unresolved characters and stories from GH history and being them back and retie them into the SLs.

I think they’re great! Sonny is FINALLY being treated like a criminal.

They rid of us Drewly in a nanosecond and gave Drewfus a purpose, if only for an afternoon of rug burn.

They are redeeming Heather and Cyrus which are both great actors.

Hat man is down to recurring, seeing him less is a blessing.

They rid the metro court and Sonny of Nina.

They are hopefully giving Brennan more time and McBain er um Silas her um Finn less!

They have done so much so quickly I cant wait to see what else they have cooking.

P.S. The end game of Sonny finally being imprisoned could bring MBs wish to retire soon!

I agree with you Brian. So far, the writing is much improved over the previous writers. It'll never be perfect but I'll settle for good. The scenes with Ava and Nina yesterday were the best of any scenes I've seen in a long time.

I was glued to my screen when Ava and Nina were going at it! And I’m grateful it didnt devolve into a brawl. Lets save that for Carly and Nina. You could sell tickets to that smackdown.

Most of the new storylines don’t make sense, and are an abrupt departure from how the characters were written before the new head writers took over.

The idea of Dex becoming a cop is ridiculous. Why is he even staying in PC when Joss broke up with him and he knows Sonny wants to kill him? He also knows that Cyrus can identify him as the fake hospital staff who tried to kill him. This character should have been written off when he packed his bags and left the last time. Also, the actor is getting that pouty scowl stuck in his face the same way Chad Duell always has that constipated scowl glued on him.

I don’t understand what Ava’s motive is for manipulating Sonny- but she is playing a dangerous game. I don’t believe that she would place herself and Avery in jeopardy by crossing Sonny. The way Ava has been written for the past half dozen years is to be cordial and cautious with Sonny and Carly for the sake of Avery. I can’t believe she would start shit with Sonny now. In his present state of mind he wouldn’t hesitate to kill her.

We’re supposed to believe that every single person in PC now hates Sonny and wants him in prison? Anna, Laura, and Jordan, in addition to everyone else? Did Jagger poison the water system? The rabid Sonny hate is as abrupt and annoying as the rabid Sonny worship was overdone and nauseating. Please, writers, do us a favor- kill off Sonny. Just end the Sonny obsession once and for all. No elaborate memorials or plaques dedicated to him at the hospital.

Kristina has always been ditzy but now she’s a complete moron. She’s 6 months pregnant and running her mouth about Sonny being accused of hiring Dex to kill Cyrus? How stupid is that? Doesn’t she work at the pub, and isn’t she putting together a teen shelter? Now Jason is involved in trying to protect Dex for the sakes of Joss and Kristina. What a convoluted SL.

At this point watching GH is just a bad habit.

Has Dex ever been arrested & convicted, if so, you would think that would keep him from being a cop? Also, you would think that his 'dishonorable discharge' from the army would preclude him from being a cop?
