Different people have different likes and dislikes. Some people don't like superhero movies or Star Wars movies or Jurassic Park movies and hold the same disdain towards those movies as you do towards this movie. It is erroneous to operate under the notion that everyone in the world is like you.

Maybe they have had different upbringings or different education that has influenced their preferences. Or, consider the a million other factors that might influence one's world view, likes and dislikes. Do not assume that there is a prototypical standard of human thought and behavior.

I don't like Star Wars either but come on, have you seen this?!

Yes, I've seen it. I will not express my evaluation of this movie simply because I do not feel that other people must agree with my evaluation. I have no motivation to convince other people that my belief is correct because this is not an objective belief, but a subjective one. It's a matter of personal preference. If you don't like it, you don't like it. If you like it, you like it.

Your like or dislike towards the film gives no objective record of about the value of the movie. I think a lot of people fail to create that disconnect.

I might love the movie Sharknado, for instance, I think it's the best movie ever made. If other people disagree, so be it. If other people agree, so be it. If there is such a thing as an objective value of a movie, that objective value is irrespective of people's opinions about it. Further, that objective value is irrespective of how well it did in the box office (another disconnect that people fail to make).

Do you go to Sundance and kiss people on both cheeks?

I haven't seen the movie, but I trust Roger Ebert who gave it four stars. It's obviously a relationship movie. From the synopsis, it appears to be about a woman who gains greater insight into her husband's character via her interactions with his family. Read his review and it might give you some insight into what a certain segment of the movie's audience might find appealing. It seems that for some the mood and setting is as important as the story.

I will state, again, how much Ebert is missed. Unlike most reviewers, he personalized every film and every moviegoing experience. It was as important to understand Ebert's connection to the film as it was the film itself and by viewing the movie through his window, you can perhaps appreciate a movie you otherwise wouldn't watch.

We all have movies that speak to us, perhaps some that aren't our typical oeuvre. Junebug may not be a movie with mainstream appeal, but I can see why it exists.

It was an ok movie... Doubt I'd rewatch it...

Roger Ebert has some really terrible reviews. And one ridiculous woman gaining insight into her dimwit husband's character is not enough to base an entire movie on. Or at least it shouldn't be. Movies like this should never end up being well known. I could maybe understand some film studies group forcing people to watch it, but even that is pushing it. There are character study movies that have actual stories and characters that aren't paper thin.

@microscope If you thought this movie was slow you should watch Gerry (2002) with Matt Damon and Casey Affleck...

Can't wait to hear your reaction to that film, although I doubt you could make it to the end xD
