From what I remember they were trying to electrocute the monster which seems like a rational idea and the gym pool had electricity close by unlike a lake. So the location and the idea were plausible.

Was it tacky like Let The Right On In?
I didn't see Let the Right One In. Yes, I think "tacky" is the right word for it.
I found it interesting at first, but it doesn't leave a strong impression. I also felt the same way about Don't Breathe. Both were well-made, but in the end I felt that the last third of the movie was unsatisfying; the solution for It Follows felt a bit silly and the villain in Don't Breathe was just too OTT by the end.
I bought It Follows when it hit Blu-ray thinking I'd be watching it repeatedly, but I've only watched it the one time and likely won't watch it again.

The Swedish version of Let The Right One In was fantastic until the pool scene!
Maybe it is just pool scenes although the one in Stranger Things is good?😁
I had found it quite overhyped, from recent horrors I prefer Don't breathe, much more thrilling, here in the end you just need to make sure you have always two exits around and always look around, I mean other people can see it since it is just invisible, but i you throw sheet on it you can see it, I would be curious if you can see it with thermal camera for instance so you could just make detection system to warn you it's around you. Then once in a while take flight to the other side of country, stay there for some time and then again take flight home and the monster will get stucked somewhere in between if you calculate pace of walk. Or I got something wrong?
I mean it is interesting idea but doesn't seem particularly crazy, heck half of followers looked normal, not scary at all.
I thought the film recovered well after a ridiculous depiction of a first death. There were a couple of other really daft moments and it did give me chills like something like Ringu, but the depiction of the monster was pretty good overall and I liked the score.
Great film. I love the sense of paranoia throughout the film. What was that noise? Who is that person walking in the background, just an extra, or....? I liked that there were no cheap BOO moments, just a slow burn and great unease.
Oh, and The Witch is awesome. I liked As Above So Below too, because it is so claustrophobic.

I only read about this, but I think it's in Jay's bedroom, near a mirror.

What is wrong with the pool scene?
