More so now with the official trailer it appears that Disney has truly hit the sweet spot with the characterization for this film and the connective tissue to the audience this film is aimed at.

I am totally on board with this movie.

If the film is aimed at people who don't care about the original. No Mushu, songs or love interest because it is supposed to be realistic, except for a witch and a pheonix and matrix action which aren't realistic either. Cause the animated film was a fantasy so it has to be more like the legend it is based on which is a fantasy too. Woke girl power theme set in a country that historically doesn't value girls.

It is not supposed to be more "Realistic" just closer and more faithful to the mythology and Chinese culture. In the animated version Mulan is the central focus of the film and that remains with the live-action version.

Are you saying the live action is "woke" but the animation isn't?

I don't give a crap about the mythology or culture. The Chinese can make their own movie about that. I care that what made the animated movie what it was, is being ignored for the sake of I don't know what. The Little Mermaid wasn't faithful to Hans Christian Anderson, Pochahontus wasn't faithful to whatever the actual story not that that is really known anyways. None of the Disney animated takes are "true" to anything. Fairy tales, myths, and legends, have many versions and their "truth" is irrelavent. How can any be called definitive. I'm not a fan of this live action remake business anyways. None of them will last like the originals.

So...

Animated version: Girl takes her father's place in a conscripted army, triumphs over adversity, becomes a great warrior and saves the day. Live Action version: Girl takes her father's place in a conscripted army, triumphs over adversity, becomes a great warrior and saves the day.

Seemingly the absence of comedy sidekicks and songs makes the latter "PC" and "woke" and an affront to masculinity?

We can all agree that this is def marketed for the Chinese market and the Mouse house will be raking in a Billion dollars on this right?

They may or may not. The Chinese market does like the big budget spectacles that Hollywood dies best. I don't know about animation. I do think the new Mulan will perform better there than here. Plus the home grown Chinese film industry is getting better and might overtake imports eventually. My complaint is not about politics but about taking a film loved for one reason and ignoring that to make what someone here described as just a Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon imitation.

This movie is an affront to basic human rights and supports racism and genocide.
