Discuss Dark Crimes

I mean he isn't the brightest Hollywood star anymore, but wouldn't have thought to find him in one of these cheap looking eastern european films, which are typically done by the likes of Steven Seagal and Jean Claude Van-Damme and sometimes Nicolas Cage etc. It's kind of funny how after seeing a bunch of them you can identify them from the start of the film from the dark and gray looking imagery etc. Maybe it's just me, but it kind of looks like Jim Carrey has a hell of a time not to start making funny faces and telling jokes in the middle of these "dramatic" scenes.

Now that I've watched it fully I have to say it is a pretty poor movie. A very mediocre plot you've seen before and just a boring and very predictable movie all around. There is another thing that seems to be common in these eastern european films and that is that they almost always seem to contain some gratuitous nudity or sex scenes and this is no exception in that regard.

I was eager to see it since it seemed like such a departure for Carrey. While it was that, as you have said it was overall a pretty terrible movie. My guess is that Carrey did it to showcase a darker, more dramatic side to his acting. Maybe he's wanting to get out of the pigeon-hole a bit. Often actors have to take lower quality work to basically create a "test reel" for other, more mainstream and popular opportunities.

I think JC did a great job here...but I gotta admit I was waiting on a scene with a lone bottle of Yellow Mustard sitting on someon's table.
