Debat Easy

So here we have an independent film written and directed by a woman-- Jane Weinstock --originally advertised, apparently, as a romantic comedy.

However, upon viewing one will discover a strong dramatic subplot, which is the main character (Jamie Harris who is played by Marguerite Moreau) and her sister and father coping with a family loss which occurs years before the film begins.

This film is not a side-splitting comedy, but a well-written comedy-drama of a young woman searching for genuine love while dealing with personal loss.

Another thing which should be mentioned is the tastefulness of the various sex scenes featured in the film. In Marguerite Moreau the director selected an actress who is undeniably cute but who does not fit the description of traditional Hollywood beauty. She is not heavily made-up in the sex scenes (minimal cosmetics), she does not appear to have had any body modification done (she looks natural), and she is not a "hard-body". I wish more actresses like her were cast in these type of roles, rather than the super-model types we seem to get in bigger-budget, more standard films. There is also a lot of natural light used in the mentioned scenes.

There is much to recommend this film, and it is a shame that Weinstock was not able to obtain theatrical distribution for this movie, although judging from some reviews on Amazon it appears to have done somewhat decently in the home-video market.

Anyone else have any thoughts?

I agree on the Marguerite's look..she looks like the standard women vs the glitzy super model I meet down here in "Singlehoodsville" lol. Although a tad hotter (I think she's awful cute)!

That first sex scene was HOT IMO. Wow! And the last with the Irish guy (where she rides him)...DAMN...gave me very inpure thoughts. lol.

As for the rest of the movie..it was very monotone & lifeless IMO. Probably why it didn't get picked up for theatrical distribution.

jorgito2001--

Thank you for the reply, especially for a very obscure film, from a post I made long ago. It's always nice when people check older boards and rejuvenate a discussion-- more of that needs to happen on TMDB!

I do agree the sex scenes were something else-- that first one, especially, just bursts onto the screen . . . it's also what I like to call an "equal-opportunity" sex scene-- female fans of Naveen Andrews will see what I mean (they show more of him than scenes like this usually do with male actors, where the man is often almost fully-clothed, while the woman is naked; not so in this scene).

But I do think this film has more going for it than just the sex; so I have to disagree with you there, jorgito. While they were a bit understated, the dramatic aspects of this film were solid; one of my favorite scenes was where the father (played by John Rothman) tries to get his daughter (Marguerite Moreau/Jamie Harris) to eat something after she appears suicidal after yet another breakup. It was a very tender and well-done scene.

Thanks again, jorgito, for your reply.
