Discuss The Old Guard

This started off well but half way through just dissolved into politically correct box ticking and became slow and boring. I skipped the last 30 minutes because it was totally predictable. I wish people would just concentrate on telling a good story without pushing their personal agendas down our throats - it would make a refreshing change.

I actually thought the opposite, that it started weak and then got better. I just hate the I have powers therefore I must be a freak and everyone thinks I'm a freak trope. Geez people, your friend almost died but she survived. There was no reason to freak out about that and ostracize her, we're no longer in the middle ages where we burn suspected witches. I once ran a poll to ask how would people react if their best friend mysteriously survived being riddled with bullets. Most of the people were just happy their friend was alive, and only one person never wanting to do anything to do with their friend from then on...however that person was Irish so take that as you may.

Thanks for responding - I had to go back and look at what this film was about - I had totally forgotten any part of it - and I guess that's the problem with it. I am a huge film fan - for more years than I care to admit to!! I can remember whole plots and conversations from films many years old - and that speaks for itself. This was just lacking in everything that makes a memorable film. Just another parcel that dropped off the end of the production line.

I had to laugh - but I can see that there is some sort of sense in that Irish response - I was thinking how I would react - and yes - sure - I would be glad that my friend survived - but if it was mysteriously - well - that would raise questions I would like answered - I would not desert my friend but I would be more cautious around her for a while I guess. I think the Irish response was driven by fear - they can be a very superstitious nation.

I would also say that it is disappointing because it takes a good idea and taints it. The woke propaganda made the film so utterly predictable which is such a shame... Charlize was awesome in this movie and the combat scenes were quite enjoyable. The main antagonist was a bit... meh. That character left a lot to be desired. The couple of music tracks they put in the movie were incredibly bad and ruined the mood of both cinematography and the score had set up. A film with heaps of potential and good bits but ruined by politics, unless that is your thing. I will most likely skip the sequel.
