Seriously, I think all the people who dislike TND last watched it 20y ago. It's much better than you'd recall; great action, decent Bond girl, fantastic score and very memorable lines.

"Pump her for information" 😂
Yeah, I agree - I rewatched all the Brosnan films recently and found I actually marginly favoured this over Goldeneye. It's got some good set pieces (e.g. the remote controlled car, the bike chase), good humour including Dr Kaufman and the classic Bond storming the villain's layer ending. All in all very good fun!
The only thing I'd fault this one for is the plot sort of got lost - people just recall this as being about Carver trying to cause a war for ratings purposes, which to be fair is largely how it's angled. The Chinese General puppetmaster backing Carver's manipulations so he could seize power was actually a pretty good storyline which was treated largely as incidental.

I thought it was alright when it came out, not the best of Bond, but was fun... Do people hate this movie?

Most people, yes. I think many hate it because of Brosnan's performance, but I think he did a great job. He stills speaks fondly of the role too.

Brosnan was a really good Bond, especially when you consider the scripts that he had and the general rise of PC culture in the 90s...
Whatever we think about the Bond films of that era, Brosnan himself was solid.

I liked GoldenEye, but I have to admit that I liked TND a bit more. I especially liked the love scene with Paris Carver. Brosnan played it just right. You really got the feeling that Paris was more to him than one of his usual one night stands

@The Midi-chlorian Count Am I the only person who thinks that Elliott Carver is obviously based on Rupert Murdoch?

No, I think it's fair to say that must have been the idea.
And always one to enjoy a good conspiracy theory, I'm not entirely convinced that current "events" in East Asia might not be subject to a similar large doze of media manipulation...

@The Midi-chlorian Count : When it comes to the MSM conspiracy theories, if Trump thinks MSM is against him, why does he keep giving interviews to The New York Times and Fox News (which is MSM, whether they deny it). Anyway, enough about Trump. In a way, this Bond villian's evil plan (start a war between China and England so he can get broadcasting rights in China) is one of the sillier ones, but it really doesn't affect the overall quality of the movie.
