Discuss X

It looks like a cross between Boogie Nights and Texas Chainsaw Massacre and I am excited for it.

And despite this movie being a horror flick titled "X", Denzel Washington doesn't show up as the reanimated corpse of Malcolm, still randy and eager to be in a porn

I had wondered if you might write something similarly disrespectful about our martyred Dr. King on the occasion of his national holiday as well.

Given MLK's appetite for the ladies(no judgment from me here), it's astounding that an 8mm homemade porn featuring dude and one of his many extramarital liaisons hasn't surfaced. We've always assumed that Correttl was a long suffering innocent throughout all of this, yet we've never entertained the possibility that there could be footage of threeway between her, Martin, and Mahalia Jackson locked in a vault somewhere in America

More seriously though, 'Loid.... We can honor King by remembering this scene from The Boondocks. That was filmed in the early 2000s; if MLK were around here in '22, he'd have even sterner words not just for "Black America", but for all of us, regardless of color. We can all behave much more righteously than we've been since about '17

You know, you fascinate me. One of the stupidest things a person can do when he has been called out for saying something wrong is "double down" on his wrong thinking.

Which aspects of my thinking do you find "wrong", 'Loid?

Quite a few of them, it seems... Quite a few. Your disrespectful remarks about the dead, particularly seeing as how those guys died to make me & my people's lives better, take the cake, to use one more cliche.

X was murdered by his own former cohorts in The Nation Of Islam, an act fueled by personal animus among racial separatists.

Btw what does that have to do with anything?

As entertaining as some of Brother Malcolm's speeches were, one has to partake in immensely contorted logic, before concluding that this=dying to make the lives of black people in The US better.

No, one doesn’t. IIRC, he said before his book was published that he felt he’d be killed for his politics. Furthermore, what is “this?” Your argument is lazy - almost nonexistent. You can say what you like about Malcolm X all you like, but I will go on referring to him as a leader. Malcolm is loved. I feel like MLK is revered, but Malcolm is loved. By many.

We should probably continue this discussion over on that thread that exists on the Malcolm X page, the one we're both already part of. Continuing to go off the topic of this thread is going to get it locked by the mods

Looking back over that thread, I recall I had decided earlier that I would stop posting to it.

Yes, I saw it too.

I don't think Ortega used a body double, as she never got nude, she just stripped down to her bra and underwear.

Mia Goth does have a nice body.

I was surprised to see Brittany Snow go topless, as I only knew her from her wholesome character on the early 2000s show American Dreams, and for some reason I thought she wouldn't do nudity-- but again, I hadn't seen any of her film work since then, for all I know this may have not been her first nude scene in a film.

From "‘X’: How the Female Stars of Ti West’s Porn-Centric Slasher Got Comfortable with ‘Outrageous’ Sex Scenes" (Kate Erbland):

“Probably filming the porn film was the scariest moment for me, but more than anything, I think it was just the anticipation of it all,” Goth said. “I knew that everyone that was in the kitchen making this happen, they were going to execute this film to a really high level. And then I read the script and that confirmed what I already thought.”

She added that, in frequent conversations with West, the filmmaker “always said that it was going to be done in a tasteful way.” (Goth’s admiration for West and his vision has already been fruitful: the pair shot a secret prequel to “X” that stars Goth in a, how to say, unique role — more on that to come later this week on IndieWire.)
...

Snow’s experience was similar — excitement mixed with anticipation and some healthy fear — but West’s dedication to not being salacious with any of the sex scenes helped.

“I initially read the script and I was a little scared, because it was outrageous in the best way,” Snow said. “Not only was I going to be baring my soul and my body, but also my singing. There was a lot of scary elements to it. Then I talked to Ti and I realized that the way that he was going to shoot it, that the sexuality of the characters was more based in who they were and what their endeavors were, as opposed to shooting it in a gratuitous way where you were really going to feel like it was exploitative in terms of their bodies.”
...

For Ortega, a former Disney kid who has been expanding her work into decidedly more grownup fare, the chance to do something really different was intriguing.

And while Ortega’s Lorraine first arrives as the quiet, God-fearing, boom mic–wielding girlfriend of RJ, she eventually decides that she wants to get in front of the camera, too.

“That wasn’t a conscious decision. The scene actually wasn’t initially in the script,” Ortega said. “When I signed on, that wasn’t a part [of the film]. It was something that came later on. … [It was] flipping the stereotype over and just taking somebody who you wouldn’t really see in that position suddenly in that position. I think it adds to the spontaneity of the decision and also just the spontaneity of the film.”
...

I really enjoyed it. Surprised they filmed it in NZ and not actually the south. It was predictable unfortunately but still fun. I mean not much you can do with horro that hasnt been done yet. I aslo liked how they filmed the prequel at the same time. Pearl looks like fun. Hope you guys stayed till the end to see the trailer. Side note, I just thought it was funny how Ortega had Sunday on her underwear, should have been Wednesday since shes going to star as her. :)

I thought it was a decent horror film, however one thing kept throwing me off. I kept thinking it was unrealistic that their porn script lacked any humor which was unheard of from porn in that era. I was waiting for the one liners, puns, jokes and clever social commentary that used to be the staple of porn back then. To me their porn felt more like modern porn when they stopped caring about telling a story or making a point and just used the dialogue to set up for the next sex scene. Thinking more about it, that's kind of weird considering the director was on and on about doing something different by trying to make porn comparable to mainstream cinema when a lot of porn directors during the 70s were already doing that thus coining the term porn chic .
