Keskustele nimikkeestä Tuulen viemää

Since they are closing the IMDB Message Boards, this one looks as close to it as possible. So I will get discussions started. I love this movie and the novel!! I read it once a year and watch the movie throughout the year. And I seem to always discover something new each time :)

I'm also a transplant. I really liked IMDB but will cancel my account on the 20th (my wife has already done so). I know these types off discussion boards can be a handful but hopefully folks will respect the effort put into these sites and act accordingly.

I know nothing about running such a website but if TMDb needs volunteers to be moderators, I'm willing to donate my time to help make this site a fun place to visit as well as a quality resource.

Anyway, back to GWTW!! I rarely start subjects; my participation is generally limited to answering questions or providing opinions if asked. Hopefully, this GWTW board will be a lively and enjoyable place for the past "Windies" of IMDb.

Hi, you two! This is "MurphyGobeau" from IMDB. Since I'm not anywhere near ready to stop discussing GWTW, which is my favorite movie of all time, here I am! It's been a while since I read the book, and am determined to begin reading anew in the next week or two. May I share this web address with you in case you haven't seen it? I found this on the IMDB board and wanted to share it with others. The original poster is Deenglow. On Sept. 11, 2016, they wrote: "It's been conjectured that Tara was inspired by Mitchell's grandparents' house, which she called "Rural Home". It's long gone."

This is listed under "Tara Façade" on the previous board. The photos/renderings truly are of Margaret Mitchell's grandparents' home. It's about 18 miles from where we live, and not far across the county line in Clayton County, near the Flint River. A dear older lady who was a GA native and had lived in Clayton County most of her life told me where to find the old home place back in the early '80's. I never did get out of my car and explore because at first I thought someone may still be living there. The next time that I drove by, there were "No Trespassing" signs posted. You know, I just remembered something that Mrs. Maddox told me. She said that there were graves back in the back and that there were blood stains on the wood floor "where a Yankee had been shot". She also told me that someone in the family had married a lady from the North and that she did not like living there. How I wish I could turn back time and explore that place, "No Trespassing" signs be hanged.

MeaMurphy, that is so cool. Thanks for the info. We are going Stone Mountain, GA this summer and Savannah in the fall. I would love to visit that house. So you can just drive right up? I don't wanna get in trouble. Ha Ha Here in Tennessee, we have the Carnton Plantation in Franklin, which was the home of a wonderful and generous family, and served as a field hospital with the Battle Of Franklin. It also has tons of interesting facts and also blood stains all over the floor (original hardwood), where they stacked the amputated limbs of wounded Confederate Soldiers. Know that sounds gross and so sad, but also so interesting! I adore anything to do with history and especially Civil War history. And if GWTW related, all the better. I would rather tour history sites on vacation, than go to the beach. Lol Charleston will be my next dream destination. Thanks again for thst awesome link. Here is a link with info on Carnton too. You should visit there (and so much more civil war stuff to do in Franklin as well). Since you are in Georgia and not that far away. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carnton 😀

Hi, Jo! Unfortunately the "Rural Home" was taken down not too long after I saw it the last time. Now there is a subdivision there (sigh). One pretty day I'll ask my hubby to drive me by there slowly and I'll see if I see anything interesting left there. Betty Talmedge, ex-wife of a late GA governor, purchased the house and had it moved to her place in nearby Lovejoy. It seems that she also bought the Tara facade from GWTW, if I remember correctly. Betty wanted to set up a Gone With The Wind attraction, but she passed away before she could do it. I don't know who owns those items now, but I have some friends who may possibly know and I'll try to remember to ask. Stone Mtn. is lovely and Savannah is beautiful! Years ago we took a tour of Savannah. There are different tours, but ours was with the Historical Society. You would be amazed how many trees and old homes they wanted to take down and replace with parking lots! Thank goodness they didn't! One unique architectural feature in Savannah are the downspouts that you may see in town that look like fish! So charming! I read about the amazing Carnton House and we would love to see it! What a truly special place. Hallowed ground. I need to check my history, but I believe Gen. Patrick Cleburne was killed either in Franklin or Murfreesboro. Such suffering and sorrow....Thanks so much for sharing the story of the Carnton House and its people. Definitely a place to visit!
