The animals

Morbius had said the animals on Altair IV were descendants of those brought there from Earth by the Krell ages ago. Couple of things don't track about that. Altair IV is a very earth-like environment, true, but wouldn't creatures have evolved differently over the ages than their cousins still on Earth? Would they even be recognizable as earth creatures that many years on? I guess that depends on how long ago the Krell had visited Earth to collect specimens wouldn't it? But then Morbius also said the Krell died out millions of years ago. Would not the cataclysm that destroyed them also have destroyed the earth creatures too?
What I'm getting at is maybe those earth creatures were brought to life by the Krell machines based on images from Morbius' mind or, more likely, Altara's.
Thoughts? Comments? Obscene gestures?

That's what I always figured. Especially since the tiger attacked Altaira apparently based also on her father's Id. And, Morbius himself mentioned that the energy readings in the Krell lab fluctuated when the deer played, etc. No reason for that if the animals are really animals.
