Max von Sydow has left us at the age of 90. Old though he was, he always seemed so busy and active that this is a shock. A great and glorious actor with a commanding presence and a magnificent voice, who lent dignity and gravitas to any film lucky enough to have him. R.I.P. sir, you will be sorely missed.

RIP, Mr. von Sydow. My main memories of you are from seeing you in so many films by Ingmar Bergman at university... also in The Exorcist. When you showed up in Scorsese’s Shutter Island, I was so pleased. Every superlative that the previous posters wrote about you is true times 10.
