Today at the age of 88 years Sir Ian Holm has passed away suffering from Parkinson's disease. Ian Holm will be remembered for numerous (often supporting) roles throughout his career such as Alien, Chariots Of Fire (Oscar nomination), Time Bandits, Brazil, Kafka, Naked Lunch, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, The 5th Element, the Madness Of King George, the critically acclaimed Sweet Hereafter, From Hell, The Day After Tomorrow, The Aviator, Lord Of War, Ratatouielle and probably will be best remembered playing the role of the older Bilbo Baggins in Peter Jackson's Lord Of The Rings and The Hobbit trilogy. RIP Sir Ian.

Yes, Ian Holm as Bilbo Baggins in the LOTR/Hobbits movies is a favorite; but it was his performance as ambivalent priest, Cornelius, in the movie, “The Fifth Element”, that made me a fan. Guess you have to bend a few Thou shalt nots if you want to help save the world.
Every time I think of him in that role, I smile.

Yes his role in the 5th Element was great fun too, a drinking priest and all (lol). He's been in so many great movies and always makes his performance noteworthy. Such a great loss.
