Obwohl Jill es ihm verboten hatte, baut Tim die Geschirrspülmaschine so um, dass sie mehr Leistung bringt. Als Jill von einem Vorstellungsgespräch zurückkommt, explodiert der Geschirrspüler und sie erfährt, dass sie den Job nicht erhalten hat. Es kommt zum Ehekrach, der nur mithilfe des Rats von Nachbar Wilson beigelegt werden kann.

Mark zerbricht aus Versehen Tims Drehmomentschlüssel. Weil ihm seine Brüder eine fürchterliche Strafe prophezeien, versteckt er sich vor seinem Vater.

Tim hat versprochen, Jill zum Essen auszuführen, doch ausgerechnet an dem Abend läuft ein wichtiges Footballspiel. Im Restaurant versucht er auf verschiedene Weise, doch noch das Spiel mitzukriegen. Auf die Kinder passt derzeit ein Magier auf, weil Jill keinen Babysitter auftreiben konnte.

Ein Bekannter kommt vorbei und hilft Jill bei der Erstellung ihres Lebenslaufs, was Tim eifersüchtig macht. Während er eine neue Satellitenschüssel am Dach anbringt, bespitzelt und stört er die beiden.

Im Haus der Taylors sind merkwürdige Geräusche zu hören. Tim vermutet zuerst eine Maus, doch der Eindringling stellt sich als Schlange heraus.

Bei einem Restaurantbesuch der Familie Taylor benehmen sich die Kinder daneben. Zuhause wettet Tim mit Jill, dass er es schafft, den Jungen Tischmanieren beizubringen.

Tim regt sich auf, weil Jill ihren Wagen ohne Öl gefahren hat. Er lässt sich in Tool Time über das mangelnde Technikverständnis von Frauen aus und macht sich über Jill lustig, sehr zu deren Ärger. Um sich zu entschuldigen, setzt er eine Sondersendung an.

Brad und Randy erzählen ihrem kleinen Bruder Mark, dass außer ihm alle Mitglieder der Taylor-Familie Außerirdische seien. Um den verängstigten Mark zu rächen, inszenieren Tim und Jill eine Alien-Show für ihre beiden älteren Söhne.

Tim will das von Jill gewünschte neue Badezimmer im Rahmen einer Tool-Time-Sondersendung einbauen. Seine Frau hat Vorbehalte, da sie befürchtet, dass die ganze Sache im Chaos enden wird. Als das eintrifft, zieht Jill wütend in ein Hotel.

Als Jill es nicht schafft, die Verstopfung im Abfluss zu beheben, macht Tim eine Tool-Time-Sendung, in der er Frauen unter Anleitung Reparaturen im Haushalt vornehmen lässt.

Damit Jill ungestört eine Rede schreiben kann, übernimmt Tim mit den Jungen solange den Haushalt. Es stellt sich aber heraus, dass Jill mehr von Lampenfieber geplagt wird, als von der Hausarbeit.

Brad und Randy erzählen ihrem kleinen Bruder Mark, dass es den Weihnachtsmann nicht gäbe. Um ihm den Glauben zu erhalten, möchte Tim als Weihnachtsmann verkleidet mittels einer Spezialvorrichtung durch den Kamin hinabsteigen.

Jill möchte nur dann mit Tim zum Bowling gehen, wenn er dabei keine Punkte zählt. Als sie dann aber ausgesprochen gute Würfe liefert und Kumpel eintreffen, kommt es dennoch zum Wettkampf zwischen den beiden.

Tim trifft Stu, seinen alten Kumpel aus dem College, und landet mit ihm bei sich zu Hause. Das passt Jill nicht, denn sie kann Stu nicht ausstehen. Aber auch Tim merkt, dass Stu und er nicht mehr soviel gemeinsam haben, wie früher.

Jills Freundin Karen ist zu Besuch und macht sich über Tim lustig. Ausgerechnet in der darauf stattfindenden Folge von Tool Time klebt sich Tim aus Versehen ein Brett an den Kopf.

Tim hat alle Mühe, das richtige Geburtstagsgeschenk für Jill zu finden. Brad und Randy führen derweil für Mark die „Kleine-Bruder-Steuer“ ein.

In Tool Time lässt sich Tim auf einen Quiz-Wettstreit mit seinem Konkurrenten Bob Vila ein. Derweil lädt Jill einen Jungen ein, weil Randy ihm einen Streich gespielt hat, doch sie beginnt, ihn unausstehlich zu finden.

Eigentlich wollte das Ehepaar Taylor einen romantischen Abend in einem Luxushotel verbringen. Doch weil Mr. Binford auf seinen Campingartikeln sitzenbleibt, zwingt er Tim, zu Werbezwecken mit seiner Familie einen Campingausflug zu unternehmen. Tim kommt die Idee, dass er eigentlich beides schaffen könne.

Tim wirft einen Kettenbrief weg, obwohl er gewarnt wurde, dass dies Unglück bringe. Als er danach vom Pech verfolgt scheint, beginnt er zu zweifeln, ob er richtig gehandelt hat.

Ein Wohltätigkeitsball steht an und Jill erwähnt gegenüber Tim, dass sie zusammen dorthin gehen werden. Der hat aber andere Pläne und beteuert, Jill habe ihm bisher nichts vom Ball erzählt.

Jill übt ihr neues Hobby ausgerechnet in der Garage aus, obwohl diese Tim als seinen persönlichen Freiraum betrachtet. Und als Al rumtönt, wie simpel so ein Moderatorenjob sei, lässt ihn Tim eine Tool-Time-Sendung moderieren.

Zum Pokerabend hat Tim vier Freunde eingeladen. Doch einer davon bringt seine Frau und einen gehörigen Ehekrach mit, der die Pokerrunde durcheinanderbringt.

Al hat sich in eine Frau verliebt, traut sich aber nicht, sie anzusprechen. Darum nimmt Tim das Ruder in die Hand und arrangiert ein Treffen, bei dem sich Al aber so blöd benimmt, dass die Sache aussichtslos scheint.

Als die Stereoanlage der Taylors kaputtgeht, rüstet Tim zu Jills Missfallen aufwändig nach. Und für Tool Time stellt er eine Band zusammen, die auf Werkzeugen spielt.

Jill kocht für Tim ein festliches Essen als Überraschung. Doch Tim ahnt nichts davon und denkt sich darum nichts dabei, als er mit Freunden in der Bar trinkt, anstatt pünktlich nach Hause zu kommen. Es kommt zum Streit und Jill wirft Tim vor, er hätte es merken sollen, dass sie eine Überraschung geplant hat. Mit Wilsons Hilfe klärt sich die Situation.

Tim und Al nehmen an Highland Games teil. Als Brad Unfug anstellt, darf er zur Strafe nicht mit zu einer Monster-Truck-Veranstaltung. Doch Tim ist das nicht Recht, weil er befürchtet, dass er langsam den Kontakt zu seinem ältesten Sohn verliert. Darauf rät ihm Wilson, ein Initiationsritual durchzuführen.

Jill und ihre Freundin Karen erwischen Tim dabei, wie er einer schönen Frau nachguckt. Als sie ihn zur Rede stellen, versucht er danach jeden Blickkontakt zu einer anderen Frau als Jill zu vermeiden.

Als Tim eine schwere Kiste Bücher trägt, um Jill zu beeindrucken, holt er sich eine Zerrung. Randy muss derweil fürs Schultheater die Rolle des Peter Pan übernehmen, die in der Regel von Mädchen gespielt wird.

Tim möchte gerne mit seinen besten Freunden nur unter Männern den Motor in seinen Hot-Rod einbauen. Als diese aber auch Frauen mitbringen, bringt das den von Tim gewünschten Ablauf durcheinander.

Tim und Jill richten für Brad eine Halloweenparty her, weil dieser ein paar Freunde eingeladen hat. Vor allem für Jennifer interessiert er sich. Doch als sie kommt, verhält sie sich Brad gegenüber abweisend.

Als Mark die Windpocken kriegt, will Tim sich auf keinen Fall anstecken und plant vorübergehend im Hotel zu wohnen. Doch als Al ihm anbietet, mit ihm zusammenzuziehen, kann er das Angebot nicht abschlagen. Wie befürchtet fühlt er sich bei Al aber überhaupt nicht wohl.

Mr. Binford, der Sponsor von Tool Time, macht sich mit einem Model auf und davon. Da eröffnet seine Tochter Maureen gegenüber Tim und Al, dass sie als neue Produzentin der Sendung zu walten gedenkt. Während Al begeistert ist, gefallen Tim die Ideen Maureens überhaupt nicht.

Jill möchte gerne, dass sie und Tim ein Testament aufsetzen. Doch Tim kann sich mit diesem Gedanken nicht anfreunden, da er nicht gerne an seine Sterblichkeit erinnert wird.

Das 'glückliche' Paar Karen und Dave kommt zu Besuch. Draußen im Garten bittet Dave Tim jedoch vor Karen zu behaupten, dass sie am Vortag zusammen Mittagessen hatten, damit Karen nicht merkt, dass Dave sich mit einer anderen trifft. Tim lügt Karen mit schlechtem Gewissen an, Jill jedoch merkt sofort was los ist.

Jill soll eine Titelgeschichte über Müll für ihre Zeitung schreiben. Damit ist sie so beschäftigt, dass sie Tim bittet sich um den Haushalt zu kümmern. Allerdings ist sie nicht mit der Art und Weise einverstanden, wie Tim dieser Aufgabe nachkommt. Derweilen will Maureen Binford in der Tool Time eine Junggesellenecke mit Al einrichten - sehr zum Ärger von Tim.

Brad und Randy sollen Geld für ein Waisenhaus sammeln und kommen irgendwann auf die Idee, einen Teil Geld abzuzwacken und ihn für sich zu behalten. Als Jill die gesammelten Sachen findet, die die Jungs sich von dem Geld gekauft haben, fliegt der Schwindel auf.

Da der gemeinsame Schrank von Tim und Jill überquillt, will Tim den Schrank aufmotzen, was Jill gar nicht passt. Während Jill und Tim streiten überlegen sich Brad und Randy eine Taktik um Brads Verwarnung von der Direktorin zu vertuschen.

Brad soll einige Tage auf den Goldfisch seiner Freundin, Jennifer, aufpassen. Der englische Titel gibt Aufschluss darauf wie das enden wird. Gleichzeitig kommen Tim und Jill in einen riesen Streit darum wem was im Haus gehört und warum.

Jill hat für ihre Zeitschrift einen Test erstellt mit dem Frauen checken können ob ihre (Ehe)Partner zu ihnen passen. Als Jills Auswertung keine Zusammengehörigkeit mit Tim ergibt, entwickelt dieser zum Spaß einen eigenen Test mit dem Männer ihre Frauen testen können. Es läuft darauf hinaus, dass Tim nicht wahrhaben will, dass er und Jill nicht zueinander passen und durch ein Gespräch mit Wilson eine Lösung sucht.

Tim findet Jills Hochzeitsgeschenk und ist so begeistert, dass er ihr den Traum vom Tanzen erfüllen will. Dafür ist er sogar bereit professionelle Tanzstunden zu nehmen. Da Tim jedoch mal wieder den Clown raushängen lässt, endet alles schon in der ersten Stunde im Desaster.

Tim und Jill sind auf dem Weg zur Hochzeit einer Verwandten. Da Tim sich als Mann zu fein ist nach dem Weg zu fragen und draußen ein Schneesturm tobt, verfährt er sich und die beiden landen (mehrmals) im selben Minimart in Ohio.

Bei den Taylors hat sich ein Specht auf dem Dach eingenistet. Jetzt versucht Tim ihn mit allen Mitteln loszuwerden. Brads ständiges Abschreiben der Hausaufgaben von Jennifer fliegt auf und sowohl Jill als auch Tim haben Schwierigkeiten ihm zu helfen ohne zu zeigen, dass sie selbst keine Ahnung von Mathe haben.

Mit Karate hat Mark endlich etwas gefunden was ihm Spaß macht. Sein Vater ist begeistert, doch Jill ist der Sport viel zu brutal und aggressiv. Am Ende verhalten sich Tim und Jill aggressiver als die Schüler der Karate Klasse.

Mark möchte unbedingt das Ballettstück „Schwanensee“ sehen und Tim ist der einzige der ihn begleiten kann. Tim stimmt ungern zu, und bekommt dann auch noch von Wilson super Karten für das Basketball Spiel des Jahres.

Jills Mutter ist auf dem Weg zu ihrer Tochter und Jill fühlt sich wie sooft nicht verstanden. Sie ist es nicht gewohnt, mit ihrer Mutter über die eigenen Gefühle zu sprechen, was zu einer Menge Missverständnissen führt.

Tim und Al sitzen in einem Restaurant und treffen dort Tims ehemalige Highschool-Liebe Stacy Lewis. Tim hatte damals vor Jill behauptet, seine Beziehung zu Stacy beendet zu haben, um mit Jill zusammenzukommen. Jedoch hatte er Stacy einfach sitzen lassen. Als Stacy plötzlich auf die Idee kommt, Jill zu treffen, hat Tim ein Problem.

Tim helps the boys with Mothers' Day projects for Jill and Randy does an unsuccessful job on a birdhouse.

Schon seit Wochen bittet Jill ihren Mann, ein paar Dinge im Haus zu reparieren. Aber Tim ist so mit seinem Hot Rod beschäftigt, dass er für solche Kleinigkeiten keine Zeit hat. Daher lässt Jill schließlich einen Handwerker ins Haus kommen

Bob Vila wird trotz Tims Manipulationsversuchen zum "Lieblings-Stargast" bei Tooltime gewählt. Im Zuge seines Besuches in der Sendung erklärt sich Tim bereit gegen Bob in einem Rasenmäherrennen anzutreten.

Jill's sister Carol is having a baby girl. When they talk about the baby's name and Jill is going through the boys' baby toys, she wishes she could have a baby girl. Tim tells Randy and Brad that Jill always wanted a girl so they tell Mark that Jill wished he had been a girl. This upsets Mark and when Jill wants to bake a cake with him, he doesn't want to. When she finds out the truth, she tells Mark that what Randy and Brad told him isn't true. Tim is also upset because he doesn't want another child. But he feels alright again when Jill tells him that they don't have the time for another child.

At Al's 35th birthday, he wants a wife and kids, so Jill fixes him up with Ilene Markham. Al finds out that Ilene wants kids too, so he proposes to her on Tool Time. Randy and Brad write a letter to Mark pretending to be Isaiah Thomas, so Tim and Jill tell Mark to get revenge.

Tim stops telling jokes and screwing up on Tool Time after he installs an intercom and hears Randy call him a screw up. Brad wants to read ""David Copperfield"" so he can talk to it to Jennifer, but he finds out it's not about the magician and Jennifer breaks up with him.

Tim has trouble with Joe Morton, his new neighbor, after Joe dents part of his hot rod. Jill becomes good friends with Marie Morton, Joe's wife. Brad signs up for home ec. as his elective to meet girls, but when the other boys in school find out about his plan, it doesn't work out the way he planned.

Tim is afraid to cry after Mr. Binford, his boss and close friend, passes away.

It's halloween and as usually Tim is up to his old tricks, however Jill plans a prank of her own. Tim gets flowers from a fan named Rose but soon strange things start happpening. She keeps calling him, Wilson thinks she is obesseed with him, Tim tries to hide but it's no use.

Tim accidentally blows up a bad picture of Jill for her library fundraising dinner. Meanwhile, Al takes the boys miniature golfing and throws a fit after Brad gets a hole-in-one.

Wes Davidson, the president of Binford, makes Tim promote a bad tool on Tool Time. Meanwhile, the boys go shopping and find a way to save money.

The boys buy a remote controlled car with stock bonds from their grandmother.

On Thanksgiving, for a perfect Christmas card, Tim builds a Christmas Village and has the family wear costumes.

At their high school reunion, Jill tries to avoid Joanie Graham, her high school friend who stole her boyfriend, and Tim and Jack try to fix the amplifier. Meanwhile, Al watches the boys and Brad's girlfriend Ashley.

Tim tries to beat Doc Johnson in the neighborhood Christmas light contest, but Randy is leaking information to Doc's granddaughter. Brad wants to go skiing with Tom Wheeler's family on Christmas.

Randy loses a sled race to Vinnie. But after following Tim's advice of racing Vinnie again with a better sled, Randy sprains his arm. Meanwhile, Brad contemplates stopping his saxophone lessons.

When Tim and Jill find out Mark is having trouble at school, they think it is because they neglect him, but the real reason is that he needs glasses.

Tim's brother Marty comes by to tell him that he's leaving his wife and kids. But Tim's advice turns Marty against him. Meanwhile, Tim creates a hole in the floor and Jill has trouble working on her psychology report.

After a routine medical checkup, the family discovers that Randy may have cancer.

Wilson becomes the director of Randy's school play but takes the role a little too seriously. Tim and Wilson clash when Wilson attempts to make him rebuild the play's aluminum set.

Tool Time goes to sea in another on-location shoot, with Tim, Al and Heidi boarding the USS Constellation aircraft carrier as part of their salute to engines.

After some discussions about his vasectomy with Jill, and some words of wisdom from Wilson, he decides that being able to return the twins after playing with them is the best idea. Mark is still wearing black, but with an added touch (of lipstick) for this episode.

On Tool Time, Tim and Al show viewers how to prepare for a severe winter storm. When Tim falls through the gazebo he discovers a small bag of marijuana taped to the underside of the swing. Jill and Tim stake out their backyard from Wilson's to catch the culprit... to everyone's surprise, Brad is caught red-handed with the goods.

The Taylors do a kitchen remodel, but a surprise is in store when Tim and Jill find out who the installer is.

Randy's driving, get off the sidewalk! ... Randy doesn't feel that he's being treated fairly when his driving privileges differ from those Brad had when he first got his license. On Tool Time, ""Judy's Rat"" pulls cable through hard to reach spaces.

Tool Time is revisited by Astronauts Ken Bowersox and Steve Hawley, who announce that a Binford tool will be used on their next shuttle mission. Will Tim or Al win the competition to be the one to use the tool in space? Back on Earth, Mark tries to impress a girl by making a dramatic change to his appearance.

When Tim overhears Jill saying that one of her patients is having an affair with Heidi's husband, Tim has trouble keeping it from Heidi.

When Tim's first car is destroyed before his eyes in a junkyard, Jill decides to find him a replica of it. Meanwhile, Mark helps Brad make a video for his college applications.

Tim becomes unhappy when Al stars in a TV movie with Morgan Fairchild. Meanwhile, Mark tries to get the affection of the most beautiful girl in his class by listening to her talk about her problems.

Tim invites his brother Marty and his twins to live with him when he discovers that Marty and his wife Nancy are separated.

Randy returns from Costa Rica for Christmas only to discover the changes that have taken place in his absence and that life has gone on without him.

Tim and Jill try to teach Marty the best way to parent when one of the twins keeps throwing tantrums to get her own way.

Tim and Jill buy Brad a car. However, when it is stolen, Tim and Al go undercover to catch the thieves.

Tim commissions Mark to make a video to celebrate the completion of his hot rod. When Tim is disappointed with the result, Mark films a new version - with a dance number set to "Greased Lightning."

Jill is angry when Tim spends too much time with his new female mechanic near their anniversary.

Plans for a ski trip are put on hold when Jill needs an emergency hysterectomy. Tim helps her face the situation, but becomes frightened when complications arise during surgery.

Tim waits for news on Jill's surgery. Jill will be fine, although she had to have her ovaries completely removed, not partially as was first thought. Jill's mother comes to visit to help with her daughter's care and with her mood swings.

Tim and Wilson's friendship is tested when Wilson wins $10,000 and decides to build an elaborate science lab in his backyard - which blocks the Taylor family's view.

Harry announces that he is retiring and selling the hardware store. Tim organizes a fundraising party for the store, but ends up buying it himself. But when the customers dry up, Tim begins to wonder what he is doing wrong.

Jill's thesis is before the committee. During Mark's student film viewing, Jill's psychology professor sees Jill criticize him and Jill is worried that this will affect the thesis committee's decision.

Troubles brew on Tool Time when Bud mandates that no non-Binford products are to be used on the show. Brad has to decide whether or not to play soccer earlier than he is scheduled to when he has an opportunity to play in front of a UCLA scout.

Tool Time continues to be a "jewel" despite the continued excess presence of the Binford name. Things rapidly turn sad when Al decides to take his mother out to dinner to tell her he's going to get married... and she has a heart attack and dies.

Tim quits Tool Time, and Jill gets an offer that divides the family.

As Tim and the Boys drive to school, they reminisce about some of the memories they have had over the past eight years.

Tim tapes his final Tool Time; Jill sets up for Al's wedding to Trudy and begins to have second thoughts about moving to Indiana.
