Only 10 episodes according to the BBC page for 'Life'
The BBC TV Schedule also confirms the episode didn't air on BBC One on the date IMDB suggests.
It may be that the episode was a DVD extra or aired as a one-off on another network/service such as Netflix. They've done that with other Attenborough shows before, such as Life in Colour .
As per Life in Colour, the extra episode was added to Specials, I'd suggest the same for this episode, but it certainly shouldn't be added to Season 1.

I'm not finding any other source (besides IMDb) that confirms there was an episode "The Making of Life".

It's on the DVDs. Putting it under specials seems the best option.
