Jack or Jesse?

I definitely don't hate Jesse, but I've got to go with Jack. If only because I preferred the early seasons of the show, which had a better combination of mystery, action and comedy. The show just got sillier every season after Charlie Schlatter joined the cast (which I'm sure is NOT his fault).

Loved the show when it started revolving around Steve & Jesse's bbq joint 🍗🍺

Man, I really couldn't stand Chachi! Come to think of it, I don't like Scott Baio much in anything else.
Steve and Jesse's relationship is something I did like about the later seasons.

Jesse. I think it got sillier and siller as Dick Van Dyke got more and more creative control, by the end it was stuffed full of his whole family wasn't it.

That's so true. And didn't his grandson even play two different characters on the show?

I think one of them did, he was a cowboy type person in an episode then someone else in another. His other gandson played an annoying medical student.

I have to say Jesse, though I actually did really like Jack. And I loved the chemistry Jack had with Amanda, but Jesse brought something to the show I never thought it needed until he showed up. I love how Jesse is from the get-go so enthusiastic.
