The 80s series was so bad I actually blocked it from memory! I didn't remember it at all and was absolutely convinced it had never been aired in my country, until a couple of years ago, chatting with friends, they said they remembered it well and some of the scenes they described began to bring back some recollection in me too. I loved the 1978 BSG, but the 1980 BSG was that bad in my opinion.

I remember that I and my classmates at school all loved the original Battlestar Galactica so the news that there would be a new series got us all excited and the TV channels started airing a teaser, which featured the "Cylon-attack on LA" a couple of weeks prior to the first broadcast and me and my class mates were all like oh my god did you see that the earth being attacked by the Cylons? and we were all in for what was coming. And in all fairness the three part pilot with the Dr. Xavier plot was pretty good ,but pretty quickly it turned into an average kids show and it became less and less about Galactica although two parter The Night The Cylons Landed was decent and funny(and added something with Cylons looking like humans which Ron Moore basically used as inspiration for the reboot) and The Return Of Starbuck was a memorable episode. So I would say 4 good episodes and 2 decent ones on a total of 10 episodes is not that bad of a score .

I liked the marvel comics of galactica as a child back then.. https://youtu.be/Tcxb7KyUse4

The only reason I watched Galactica 1980 for a couple of episodes is that I was a big fan of Kent McCord.

I think the 1st season budget was $1 million per episode which was insane back in 78, the most expensive tv show up until then.

The 2nd season Galactica 1980 was originally a great idea... The idea was Starbuck & Apollo would time-travel through earth's past as they chase Baltar who destroyed earth. But Dirk Benedict couldn't do it since he was doing the A Team, and Richard Hatch didn't want to do it unless they got Dirk & most of the original cast. So they revamped the entire show and turned it into a cheesy detective type thing with the 2 newcomers Troy & Dillon (who weren't bad actors, they just didn't have any good material to work with).

I think the original time travel premise was done for 3 or 4 episodes, replacing Starbuck & Apollo with Troy & Dillon, and replacing Baltar with Xavier. Even with the new cast those episodes are worth checking out. But dear lord whoever came up with the STAR CHILDREN plot needs to go back to writing saturday morning cartoons.
