to be the next Doctor? Anyone know? I was so hoping that Matt Smith might return. I heard rumors last year that he said he would like to.

Hopefully any future appearances by him will be returning guest roles as the eleventh Doctor - nothing more.
As for rumours, Kris Marshall seems to be a favourite with many at present - including me.

Same here.
He has shown that he can be eccentric or weird in much the same way as Tom Baker or Matt Smith.

The show will hopefully never bring back a previous doctor as the next full time doctor. It's a show about change and so having the next doctor be a previous doctor just wouldn't work in my opinion. There's always multiple doctor stories as a way for previous doctors to return.
