Discuss Grantchester

The PC train has pulled into Grantchester - and will no doubt ignore the reality of the era with it's super soapy silly everybody's lovely depictions of racial and sexual tensions. I am sick and tired of truth being the first casualty of these series. I am on the bus out of here.

I read somewhere that next season will be the last for Tom Brittney. Plus, is it me or has anyone else sensed that Mrs. C's role has been gradually downplayed these past couple of years? Anyway, in any case, it seems to me the show may be approaching the "life support" stage. I suppose it's possible the writing could begin to focus a lot more on Geordie and have him investigate and solve crimes solo rather than enlisting the aid of the local pastor.

I’m not surprised about these cover-all-bases storylines, since the overwhelming majority of viewers are 25-34…while the 50’s were 70+ years ago.

Maybe if more 70+years-olds, who remember these times (and spend $$$ like a 25+year-olds) were watching, THE BEAN COUNTERS would be less likely go give us these altered-history storylines.

I may be dead wrong but I kind of doubt the majority of the viewership for Masterpiece is ages 25-34, and suspect MANY more 40-70 year olds are tuning in. The Masterpiece intro always features that blue-haired lady who gives megabucks to the show, plus there are often other elderly people featured in promotions beforehand who talk about putting PBS in their wills!

According to this blog, we're in excellent company as PBS viewers.

Meanwhile, according to another article I found, the average age of PBS viewers overall is 65. Whether specifically PBS Masterpiece viewers are that old on average, I highly doubt, though I totally agree with you, merry, that probably 40-70 primary age range sounds, more than likely, about right.

Here's one of many articles about super-rich PBS Masterpiece mega-donor Darlene Marcos Shilely.

Must be nice having so much money to spare!

'Points taken' regarding the age thing.

Although...

Nowhere did I mention "Masterpiece". (FULL DISCLOSURE: I did catch the last two episodes on Masterpiece.)
