Discuss DC's Legends of Tomorrow

TRIVIA

Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell are both reprising their roles as Captain Cold and Heatwave from The Flash (2014). They are known for being the two main characters and brothers in the hit TV-series Prison Break (2005).

In the third episode, Rip Hunter says, "I've seen Men of Steel die and Dark Knights fall." Probably a reference to the storylines The Death of Superman and Knightfall.

Set in the same universe as Arrow (2012) and The Flash (2014).

Oliver Queen/the Green Arrow appears on & off in this new spin-off.

Because the trailer was filmed before the end of Season 3 of Arrow (2012) and Season 1 of The Flash (2014), scenes had to be re-shot to accommodate the story lines from Season 4 of Arrow and Season 2 of The Flash. These changes were Arrow becoming The Green Arrow in Arrow: Green Arrow (2015) with a new costume. The crest on The Flash's chest changed in season 2. The Ronnie Raymond Firestorm was replaced by Jefferson Jackson version and the character of Hawkman was added.

Amy Pemberton voices Gideon on the Legends of Tomorrow, while Morena Baccarin voiced her on The Flash (2014).

Arthur Darvill is the fourth actor in the DC shared TV universe who was also on Doctor Who (2005). Darvill starred as The Doctor's companion Rory Williams. The other three actors are John Barrowman, Alex Kingston, and Colin Salmon who played Captain Jack Harkness, River Song, and Dr. Moon on the show and who now play Malcom Merlyn, Dinah Lance, and Walter Steele on Arrow (2012).

Arthur Darvill plays Rip Hunter, a time traveler who assembles a group of heroes and villains to combat a threat to all of reality. Darvill portrayed Rory Williams, companion to the time-traveling Doctor on the BBC series Doctor Who (2005).

In the trailer there was a cameo of Harrison Wells sitting on Rip Hunter's time travel machine and you could see the hat of the famous speedster, Jay Garrick/The Flash.

On Kevin Smith's "Fatman on Batman" podcast, Executive Producer Andrew Kreisberg described the show as "Justice League meets Doctor Who".

This is the second live action series to present Hawkgirl as well as Hawkman, although Hawkgirl was named Shayera Hall (played by Sahar Biniaz) in Smallville instead of Kendra Saunders.

This is Brandon Routh's second appearance as a DC Comics character. The first one was as Clark Kent/Superman in Superman Returns (2006).

The lines said by some of the heroes are references to what happened to the creators of Arrow (2012):

"I started this alone, and had every intention of keeping it that way", a nod to the producers who had no intention whatsoever for Arrow to have spin-offs.

"I had a plan, life had a different one", the creators never intended to create spin-offs, but the fan demand and ratings pushed into doing so.

"Then things just got stranger", the producers never wanted for superpowers to be a part of their universe, but it started making references to them starting with Barry Allen's appearance in Arrow: The Scientist (2013).

"But the truth is, sometimes we're not enough, sometimes, the world needs a team", a line spoken by Barry/The Flash, referencing The Flash: Flash vs. Arrow (2014)/Arrow: The Brave and the Bold (2014) crossovers, where characters from both The Flash and Arrow have to team up in each others series to take down enemies they can't beat on their own.

As Stephen Amell appears in Legends of Tomorrow: Pilot, Part 1 (2016), it makes him the only actor to appear in the pilot of all three shows, Arrow: Pilot (2012), The Flash: Pilot (2014) and Legends of Tomorrow (2016). The only other actor to appear in more than one pilot is Katie Cassidy who appears in the pilots of Arrow and Legends of Tomorrow.

Rip Hunter's ship is named Waverider. This is also the name of a DC Comics superhero who debuted in the 1991 Comic release "Armageddon 2001", where he traveled into the past to stop a future dictator. He most notably reappeared in the 1993 Superman series "A World without Superman." Waverider lived and trained at the Vanishing Point with "The Linear Men" (A group serving the same function as The Time Masters) but almost intervened in Doomsday's killing of Superman when he learned of his death. However his mentor (who was actually a future version of himself) convinced him to let time run its course.

Rip Hunter always calls Heatwave by his last name 'Rory': this is also the name of the character Arthur Darvill (Rip Hunter) plays on Doctor Who (2005).

Gideon is the same AI as Harrison Wells' AI on The Flash (2014).

Victor Garber and Franz Drameh, who both play as F.I.R.E.S.T.O.R.M are both born in London, but Garber in Canada and Drameh in the UK.

This is the second time Falk Hentschel is in a comic book show. He was in an episode of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (2013) as HYDRA agent Mark Scarlotti.

One of the keepsakes Rip Hunter has in his galley is an iron cooking pot with triangular eye holes cut into it, which was the helmet worn by the Golden Age Red Tornado.

In episode 3 of season 1, Stein says to Atom "You can't miss them, they're as big as icebergs", Atom replies "I wonder if they said that on Titanic?". Victor Garber who plays Stein previously played the designer of Titanic in James Cameron's film of the same name.

The producers wanted Megalyn Echikunwoke to reprise her role as Mari McCabe/Vixen in the series but she could not due to previous commitments.

Episode 8, titled Night Of the Hawk, is a nod to the 50s horror movie Night Of the Devil. The Show contains many scenes which replicate those of movies from the 50s.

Martin Donovan plays Zaman Druce a time master who was Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill)'s mentor. Zaman means "time" in Turkish.

In season 1 episode 2, Snart calls Ray "Boy Scout", this may be a reference to Brandon Routh's previous role as Superman in Superman Returns (2006). Superman is often referred to as "Boy Scout" or "the Blue Boy Scout" by other members of the Justice League, especially Batman, due to his ingrained sense of honour and justice and his unwillingness to kill even his most fearsome enemies.

Mackenzie Gray plays Council Member #1/Time Master in this series. He is also the only actor to have played three different roles in live-action Superman dramatizations - all three of them villains. He portrayed both Alistair Kreig and a clone of Lex Luthor in the TV series Smallville (2001), and Jax-Ur in Man of Steel (2013).

Summer Glau, Morena Baccarin, and Jewel Staite had roles in Firefly/Serenity as well as each having a role in the Arrowverse.

In the episode Fail-Safe, Leonard Snart ( Captain Cold) says " This isn't my first prison break". Wentworth Miller who plays Leonard Snart starred in the show Prison Break, where he plays a character who's job is to break i his brother out of jail.

Legends of Tomorrow (2016) is considered to be the Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) of the televised DC comic universe.

Morena Baccarin, who voices the AI Gideon on the show The Flash (spun off from The Arrow), played Inara on Joss Whedon's series Firefly and movie Serenity. Jewel Staite, plays a role in two episodes in Legends. She was the engineer Kaylee, also on Firefly/Serenity.

When Ray Palmer was a recurring character in "Arrow", Felicity Smoak mentions that Palmer knew the plot to every episode of "Doctor Who", a show that serves as a partial inspiration to "Legends".

Guest star Jewel Staite played a character called Amy Pond in Supernatural: The Girl Next Door (2011). In Doctor Who (2005), Karen Gillan played a character called Amy Pond whom was a companion to The Eleventh Doctor and was wife of Rory Williams (Played in that series by Arthur Darvill whom plays Rip Hunter).

Guest stars Morena Bacarrin and Jewel Staite's Firefly (2002) and Serenity (2005) co-star Summer Glau whom played Isabel Rochev/Ravager in season 2 of Arrow (2012) had starred as time traveling cyborg Cameron Phillips in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (2008). On the Facebook social network, a group called "Should Summer Glau Appear in an episode of Doctor Who?" was set up as an online campaign for the actress to appear in an episode of Doctor Who (2005). Arthur Darvill had played The Eleventh Doctor's companion Rory Williams in that series from 2010 - 2012.
