Discuss Lovesick

Item: Scrotal Recall

Language: en

Type of Problem: Incorrect_content

Extra Details: I am not sure the proper way to report this or handle it, but this series, Scrotal Recall, has changed its name to Lovesick. It was changed prior by someone, but now I see it is changed back and is locked. I understand that Scrotal Recall is the original title of the series, but on season 2, that name is no longer used and it is Lovesick. How is this handled here? Using Scrotal Recall is historically correct, and is original title, but for current and future is incorrect.

Anything on this? Nexflix calls it Lovesick as well, it is there show. https://www.netflix.com/title/80041601 Since it is locked, I assume that someone has made the decision to not change the name per Netflix change. Could that reasoning be shared then?

Hi, since it was properly released with the Scrotal Recall title, that is the title we choose to use. Lovesick is correctly added as an alternative.

Compare it to a movie that is released theatrically, then Netflix buys the digital rights and renames the movie. We would stay with the original title in such a case.

Ok, I understand. I ask because this type of stuff poses problems for some API users. IMDB, Wikipedia, TVDB, etc all use the new name, while TMDB uses the old. Please do not take as I am disagreeing with your decision, just saying this poses some food for thought for API users on how to handle differences like this. Others have opted the reverse, name change to Lovesick and alternate title of Scrotal Recall.

I understand your logic, only thing is that it differs from the others and creates duplicate entries in media managers.

I wrote a reply that you can read below. But since this is an ongoing series the title must change of course as it is right now. I thought it was a finished series that was picked up by Netflix, but that was wrong. I have changed the title. Sorry for my sloppy research!

Title changes are not well supported as it is now as the new title is added to all old seasons. See for example: https://www.themoviedb.org/tv/2224-the-daily-show

My old reply that is still valid had this not been an on-going series:

(It should be no problem to find it since the alternative title is there. There are several similar examples in the database already, with the first Harry Potter movie being the most famous example (UK movie with a different US title).

And using that Harry Potter example, it is incredible that IMDb decided to carry the incorrect original title (it used to be correct). So maybe one could say that IMDb and other sites have a strong pro-US bias (probably for commercial reasons). We always want the data to be correct and that means the original title should be the original one.)

I see. Thanks for the replay again, and providing the detail you have. No problem on the confusion, I could have done better at detailing too. I have a better understanding now on how title changes work, so that is good too. It is also good to see that the policy is not actually different, it is the same, or at least similar enough.

Thanks again! Appreciate the time put into a detailed answer and explanation. :)
